SUP General / Re: Winter SUP surf - wetsuit glove review
« on: November 24, 2018, 12:16:51 PM »
I use sailing gloves from West Marine since I find they last longer and have better grip then "surf gloves".  And it kind of makes since as my hands are not in the water all the time.  Surfing gloves presume you are a proner and hence need wetsuit like protection.  But them I'm not where it is sub zero so YMMV

SUP General / Re: Tips needed for discretely fitting in the line up.

I have given up trying to fit in at Santa Cruz breaks.  I put my ear plugs in and do my thing.  For me to understand what someone is saying they have to be close and loud but even then if I see their lips move I just smile and point to my ear and shake my head.  Its a great way to disarm them and it forestalls any more engagement.  You just never now who is the asshole at a break.  It could even be me :)

Foil SUP / Looking for Rollio in Santa Cruz
« on: November 22, 2018, 04:34:44 PM »
Was talking to a older guy at Cowells/Indicators on a orangeish prone foilboard he made and said is name was Rollio  Want to talk to him about making me a foil SUP but now I can't remember his first name and Google is unhelpful.  Anyone know who I'm talking about?

Pono, I looked at that first pic for a bit trying to pic out the yoga blocks while wondering why your Christmas socks were in the pic.  But I finally saw the hooks.

Looking forward to a report on them.

Read it last night.  A few good posts but the negativity overwhelms.  If there is a really good post hopefully someone in the hazmat suit will do a a copy and paste operation to this forum which will decontaminate it.

Using SPDs is a good analogy.  I've MTB for years with SPDs and remember looking like a cat that someone put a harness on when I first start using them..  So I'll go naked then with hooks and finally with straps, if skills warrant.

Thanks all

Foil SUP / Straps and broken ankle
« on: October 18, 2018, 07:25:24 PM »
Was talking to Stretch today, who will install strap inserts on a SUP that I'm learning to foil on.  He mentioned kite-surfers usually have both feet in straps to avoid a broken ankle.  At this time I want to only have my front foot in a strap since I'm still a foil newb and don't need another item on the pre-flight checklist

Is breaking an ankle a possibility when foilboarding with only the front foot strapped in?

Also, anyone carved up a yoga EVA foam block  to duplicate Roberts foot hooks?

Thanks

Foil SUP / Re: Foilboard rental in Hawaii. Bringing my own foil
« on: August 26, 2018, 07:18:02 PM »
Hey,

Thanks for the info.  Yea I want to rent a purpose built foil board instead of bringing my converted SUP over.  If there is magic then I'll buy the one I ride.  I'll check with Watersports.   CL has some foil boards though if I'm plunking down 1k+ might as well get a newer board with the latest ideas of what makes a good foiler incorporated into them.

Foil SUP / Foilboard rental in Hawaii. Bringing my own foil
« on: August 23, 2018, 07:14:43 PM »
Hi,

Looking to see if I can rent a foil board, minus the foil, somewhere in HI in the next few months.  I know renting a board with the foil is not available because of liability issue as well as concern that a newbie is going to jump into the lineup with a foil and be a mad slasher.

Thanks

Travel, Trips, Destinations / Anyone foiled around Pacifica

I might be moving to Pacifica and wonder how bad the kelp is up there.    Anyone foiled at Lindamar or the other areas around Pacifica?

Try Manresa State Beach which is kelp free.

Evan, you should let us zoners in SC know when and where you are foiling so we can come watch.

Wow Connector I wish I had your progress. I'm into week 6 post op and still cannot walk all that far.  I have to ice after pt,gym or biking - which I just started again.  I weigh 50 pounds more then you so that could be a reason for my slow progress.  Still if I have full mobility again it will be worth the wait even if it means a summer without surfing/foil crashing
