Sessions / Local Summer Lives!
« on: November 09, 2020, 05:32:32 AM »
As some of you have already seen from LBsup's "Indian Summer In NJ" post we've had tons of GREAT weather and waves the last coupla days here in New Jersey. Temps in the mid 70s with light/variable winds and mild water temps (relatively, 60F) landing right smack on the weekend made for some great beach going and surfing. The last pic is my brother making fun of me on my 9'11" Ripper!

SOLOSHOT caught all the action again. At the 05:00 mark you'll notice a sup rider "Kayak" paddling his sup. He used to surf a Wave Ski back in the 80s and 90s and switched over to sup around 2010 or so.

Nice! We had the same swell down here on Long Beach Island. But my local was not near the machine like perfection you scored! After a while I thought maybe you did a copy/past on some of those rides! How lucky are we to have 70F temps in Nov with light winds and good swell!

BTW, nice pictures. Your Fall sup surfing sessions have been very good to you.
Thanx, NW. A few more pictures came my way. The first one I stumbled on randomly on a facebook page from the town where the break is. The next two are from a young surfer/photographer I know. Also added a shot of the Coast Guard navigating Manasquan Inlet during the storm. True, fall has been very good here on the East Coast. I'm trying to get motivated to do a "tropical Update" video with highlights from all the swells. Looks like we're just about done at this point being as a SERIOUS cold front arrived last night and it's now blowing 30-40mph offshore!

We just broke the record for the least storms in a season...LOL

As someone with little memory and attention span, I'd have never thought The Queen's Gambit ...a fricking program focused around 'chess' would have been the least bit interesting, but the scripts for the series are simply excellent as is the acting.
I just finished the final episode and I thought the same! A tv show based around chess? It was quite captivating.

Hard to believe we just broke the record for most hurricanes since 2005(Same year as Katrina, Rita, and Wilma)! Zeta delivered nicely this afternoon w/the typical flooding. Chilly though. Water is now 59F and the air was 45F w/a stiff north wind. First sesh w/the 4/3 full, boots and cap. Coulda used light gloves too (unless you're supthecreek  :P)! Didn't charge the SS the day before so it died pretty quick. Got one ride at least and a photographer I've know since the 80s got a nice shot of me. Micheal Baytoff, he was inducted into the New Jersey Surfing Hall of Fame a few years ago. I attended that induction at The Algonquin Theater in Manasquan. Was a blast.

close quarters at 3:55 mark in that video  ;) curious what you said to him after that wave  :o
That was a close one. I was so glad he didn't fall or get clipped by the lip. I said "Good job, Dingo"! Known the young fella for years. Quiet ripper.

Epsilon provided 3 days of hurricane swell with very little wind/no wind. We don't get that combo much. 70 degree temps in late October to boot. Keep delivering the stoke Marc we all enjoy it!
Winds were sooo light for Epsi. We lucked. Thanx for the delivery request, osprey! Hey, check it out, I found an osprey in flight w/fish pic from 2017. Was shooting the surf when the raptor flew in w/lunch.

Yewwwww Marc! Glad to see your progression into recovery  :)My SoloShot is on strike since the big swell of Paulette.... very frustrating.
Thanx fore the Creek-stoke. Bummer about SOLO3. Support ticket I hope.

Since you took three different boards on on three different sessions, which board did you like best if you had to do a comparison?
Each of my boards have their own qualities for different conditions, Winger. I guess that's why it's called a quiver. I sold both my low vol sups since my shoulder operation though. Went from five sups to three.

Good for you Marc! You almost took that guys head off at just under 3min. good you stayed in control.  Iím surprised there arenít less crowded spots down there that you could venture to.
That guy was NOT in a good spot, LB! Just cleared him. There are plenty of empty breaks on LBI and the first two days of the swell I took advantage of that. Only me and my brother out those first two days at the random breaks. But they are WAY more challenging and unpredictable than the machine like perfection of the groin.

I guess everyone knew about the surf..... Fun stuff Mark! Soloshot is working well. We've had some good swell these past few weeks with 70 deg + water temps.
Unfortunately that spot is now pretty much totally blown up at this point. Especially after the Nor-Easter Riley swell back in March 2018.  I first surfed there WAY back in 1991. Was quite different then. Your warm water sounds nice! We're down to the lower 60s now and it's gonna take a steep dive soon!

Been quite a run of swell. For as crap as 2020 has been with everything not waves, Sept and Oct were sure good for waves here! I have like 200 GB of raw SS footage!

This is a quick edit of the 3rd day action north of the groin. Went quite well for my first time on the 8'0" Assassin quad all year. Especially with around 40 out! Three boards in three days. First day I rode my 9'11" and the second day my 9'3".  LIG

Nice. Always a bonus when it's empty and pumping. Reminds me of this day when I decided to bail on the groin which had over 15 guys on it. Headed to my local to find it empty with only one on it.

4 fin quad. This setup looks to be working well for you.
Again, thanks for sharing your videos.
Your welcome! Those fins are Sea Sheppard twins with bites. $50 off Craig's. I bought em off the same guy that sold me my 8'0" Coreban Vibe back in like 2013. That board rocked with that setup!

Nice video Marc.  Beautiful conditions add your music made it very relaxing to watch, thanks
I appreciate that. I left the sounds of the surf in there too! TY

That camera is sharp,  crystal clear !  We will have cold surfing soon enough.
lol..SOLOSHOTs are definitely cool! That cam is the original one that came with the first shipment three years ago now!

Nice! ... Thanx 4 share'n!
