I second the request for a non facebook link. Please....

Been looking at the vanguard 5'2 for kiting and to use as a surfboard.

Lots of discussion (pretty much all good) about the shape on the kiteforum.

Lot of designers hopping on the bandwagon but apparently it's not just the outline. Lots of design elements in the bottom shape.

I'm all for tech that adds functionality (especially one with a good strength/weight ratio)

Not sure if you already saw this in the Jimmy 2015 thread but it's pretty impressive!

I've had a chance to surf the 8'11 and I was able to catch the smallish mushy waves so it has good speed. A friend has the 7'11" and it is fast and makes nice turns. It also seems to handle steep drops well on the bigger days that are head high.

Technique / Re: Tiring SUSing in sloppy conditions.

i find having to much volume when it choppy make it almost harder as you tend to get nocked around more by the chop. Having the board sitting lower and letting the bumps pass over the board works better for me.
I am only a beginning intermediate SUSer but I share supuk's experience. If the board sinks a bit, it seems to make things smoother. However the tradeoff is that it presents more of a challenge for me to catch the wave as I have to be in a more critical section. I think I prefer that to getting bounced around.

Wind Powered / Re: Putting a sail on an AllWave 8'10"

I think it would be fun in moderate wind and waves.  I wouldn't sail it just to sail, but to wave sail I think it could be fun and an alternative when too windy/sloppy to SUP.

Carib is spot on here about when the conditions are not so great for SUP. It's all about wavesailing and not about planing. 5 - 15 knots is all you want and I pretty much just use a 5.2. You want a sail that will disappear. The shlog out will be quite easy. Tack or pivot gybe which will also be easy due to the float of your board. Usually just a few pumps to catch waves to your hearts content.

Harness for sure and no footstraps. If you have the cash then get a nice light wave sail and rig (warning - spendy) otherwise something used will be fine.

I guess I could start with IP58 and get it liquipel treated or just stick it in a bag like I do with my iPhone/lifeproof,
Don't think they make these specifically anymore but any polyurethane variety would probably work.

If you think this is the dumbest idea ever than this video is for you. Warning video contains excessive profanity http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fp0fe_YcPo8

Technique / Re: Elbow pain
« on: April 11, 2014, 06:20:14 PM »
Is there possibly a misunderstanding about the OP's elbow pain? I believe I have what the OP describes and am looking for answers as well. I just want to make sure the suggested therapies are effective.
Quote
I have developed olecranon bursitis, an inflammation of the "cushion" over the point of the elbow.
Quote
I noticed a very, very small amount of tenderness consistent with tennis elbow
Quote
I don't know if the pressure of the wetsuit on the point of my elbow caused the inflammation

I'm not sure, but I take "tenderness consistent with tennis elbow" to mean the pain we are experiencing is the same kind of discomfort one would experience with tennis elbow. A lot of people have been referencing tennis or golfers elbow when making recommendations. Maybe I have misunderstood but should we rather be addressing bursitis at the point of the elbow and if so are the the suggested therapies still applicable?

DelawhereSUP would you comment and I'm curious to know if you had made progress?

My SUP time is limited to my Hatteras trips which totals 4 to 5 weeks a year, however I do a lot of windsurfing and I find the Ironman pretty good.

Pro's:
  • Large numbers of the display. Even when I had good vision I found the G shock display way too tiny.
  • Cost, http://tinyurl.com/jwy43hg. The G-shock may be tougher but I can get around 3 Ironmans for the cost of a G shock.
Con's:
  • The band does deteriorate. Not sure if it's sunscreen for me. Maybe just UV. However my current Ironman is going on 3 years. Previously I'd say over 2 years. They don't make replacement bands which is so bogus but you probably could get a web band for it.
  • Possibly the battery. I think the trick is to really minimise the use of the Indiglo.
