Foil SUP / Traveling with DW foilboard?
« on: December 16, 2023, 10:38:06 AM »
I'm planning on taking a trip this winter to Salinas Del Rey in Columbia primarily for winging, but I am considering taking my DW foilboard. Anybody with experience traveling with DWBs or SUPs have any advice to offer?

I wish I could do foil downwinds. I tried--not going to happen.

I'm using the DW boards and the hybrid 6'4 as well. I can flat water paddle up the 6'4 with the 1310 and the 8' is pretty easy to pop up onto while the 8'6 is easy enough for my first time customers to be able to pop up on their first session. The carbon wrap is pretty durable but I keep it in the bag when in the truck.

Wow, do I understand correctly that you have customers flat water paddling foiling on their first day with the 8'6" and 1310? These are people who I assume already have strong paddling skills?

I had generally understood that many experienced water people considered flat water paddle ups the hardest thing they had ever done. Is the new equipment so good that it can be learned in a day?

It's something I aspire to do and was ready for at least a season to get in shape and acquire the technique. You are getting my hopes up that it can learned rapidly with the right equipment.

How much harder is it to paddle up the Hybrid? Is there any reason you paddle up the hybrid other than the challenge?

Sam is a terrible person to use for inspiration, he does things on a foil that are not humanly possible.

It does look very challenging on what appears to be a small wingboard. However, it seems like it would be doable for us mortals on a DW SUPfoil board.

Super rad! Just noticing the interesting inverse top and bottom V shape of the stabilizer.

That looks fricking killer! Would be awesome in a sci-fi movie too. Maybe copyright the design!

Fingers crossed for the performance!

I've decided to bring out the Axis 980/420 combo I got from Dwight in the late fall. Bought a mast and fuse and having it shipped out there. Is there a deccent used market for wingboards there? I've checked Craigslist and Friends of Kanaha and there isn't much. I think I'm looking for something around 100 ltrs that I might be able to SUPfoil with. Any other resources I should check?

Thanks for all the info Bill. I won't get my hopes up on the DWPF (thanks for the reinforcement Cowboy). I'm sure downwinging in real ocean swell will be frickin sweet anyway.

I will definitely hit Jeremy's clinic and have contacted him about lessons as well. I will be looking for guidance on equipment but hoping I can get away with one board for Wingfoil/SUPfoil/DWPF

Hoping we get a chance to meet up!

Travel, Trips, Destinations / Maui finally!
« on: February 12, 2022, 11:40:41 AM »
Hi all,

Starting out as a windsurfer and dreaming about the cover shots of windsurfing magazine, 30 years later I will finally be making the pilgrimage to Maui next week. During that time I took up kiting, SUPing, kitefoiling, and wingfoiling. After this trip I hope I will have added SUPfoiling and downwind paddle foiling.

Living in Vermont and caregiving for my parents for the last 5 years, I have luckily been able to get out here on Lake Champlain. However, I have not been in the ocean so I have had no surf time. SUP foiling was just taking hold then, but I didn't get a chance to try it. I can't wait to take my lumps and see what it is all about.

I assume that I will be going to the harbor to learn to SUPfoil? I will be staying for 2 weeks. Is it realistic to think I might gain enough skill to try DW paddlefoiling as well? Does DWPF require major logistics or are there short runs one can make? Any recommendations on where to rent gear? Is there any place that rents Axis foil gear?

While there, I would love to connect with any zoners that are so inclined.

Thanks,
Ace
