I see what you mean. The elbow and nuke plant make it a bit tough.

It's a long river though. There's got to be someplace where two spots line up for a good run.

At least it's new to us here in the states. How come all the other countries get the new JL boards way before the US does?

Seems like England, France, Italy, Australia, Japan and Taiwan all got these boards last summer and fall while we have to wait til Spring of this year. Their websites are mostly up to date while the US website still shows old boards from 2013/14.

You don't have to mark messages as read.

I see what you're saying now.

All you have to do is look at the dates of the posts over to the right and only read the posts since you were there last, just like we do on the Seabreeze forum.

That works too.

How is the downwinding there?  It looks like a great place for it.

Okay, "Unread Posts" seems to do what I want.

I bookmarked it.

Now, instead of going to the forum index page, the bookmark will take me straight to Unread Posts.

As long as I hit "Mark all messages as read" each time I leave the website, it should show all the new posts since my last visit when I return, hopefully.

I'll give it a try and see how it goes.

I'm really liking the "Unread Posts" trick. It really makes reading the forum a lot easier, especially if you bookmark it.

I can't find a way around marking them as read.

Correct me if I'm wrong but unless you read every unread message or mark them all as read, won't the unread messages you're not interested in still be there when you return?

Marking them all as read when you're done clears the board so that when you return it will be all new stuff, or is there a better way.

Do you use the "Show Unread Posts Since Last Visit" link that appears below your name?

I use to see that, but it has disappeared as well as the ' Hello Tom '.  I'm logged on, or else I wouldn't be able to make this post.

I think if you click on the little V in the upper right corner it should say "Hello Tom".

The Recent Posts box is useless if it's full of new posts since your last visit and it can fill up in a matter of a couple hours. At first I couldn't figure out how I kept missing so many replies to my posts until I figured it out.

What's the point of having a recent post box if it only holds ten posts? Why would anyone only want to read the ten most recent posts?

It would be a nice and very useful feature if it held all of them or at least all of them within the last few days.

The Blend was my second board. Now it belongs to my GF. I still use it sometimes. I bought it new in 2013. It's a great all around board. I weigh 160.

I used it mostly for surfing, from knee to chest high. Great board to learn on. Catches waves way early. Very responsive for such a big board. I thought it was plenty stable even in the chop.

I also used it for distance, often covering six or eight miles. It goes reasonably well upwind. I remember some days battling 15+ mph wind and chop while paddling around headlands and always making it.

It downwinds pretty good. It's the board I discovered downwinding on. Nice long glides. It will occasionally bury the nose. You have to react fast and get back on the tail when that happens. You learn to avoid it by surfing the waves left or right instead of straight ahead.

SUP General / Re: Did any of you NE people see ice bergs?
« on: March 11, 2015, 04:30:43 AM »
Not really ice bergs. They're called ice floes.

They get thick like that when the wind and waves push the ice into the bay. It just piles up on itself. Add a few feet of snow and it can get pretty thick. Now it's starting to break up.

It's awesome fun paddling around with all the floating hunks of ice on a warm windless spring day. I've never done it there but have many times up here in Great Bay NH.

SUP General / Re: When did you start surfing?
« on: March 10, 2015, 05:17:38 AM »
I first tried it in when I was seven years old in 1964 at the Wall in NH. My brother put me his big Kailua log and launched me toward shore on a knee high wave.

We did that for two summers. Mostly I watched and learned. Then my brother joined the navy in '67. Those years really affected me. He left me with a stack of the original surfer magazines that I wish I still had.

I was hooked but unfortunately didn't surf again until 1975 when I was 18. I spent a good part of that summer surfing longboards in Florida at Cocoa Beach. That's where I really learned to surf.

After that, the years went by but life's interferences and a lack of money kept me from surfing, although I continued to follow the sport closely.

I got into windsurfing from '78 to '83 but didn't get to explore the surf aspect.

Fast forward to 2013. Now I'm 56. If I was going to do it, it had to be now. I was just about to start shopping for a longboard when I noticed some paddleboarders having a ball at a distant point break. Right then it clicked in my mind that this was a better way to surf.

Now a year and a half and five boards later, I finally have the full on surf stoke I was hoping for. It has changed my life immensely for the better.

When it comes down to it I've really only been surfing for a year and a half even though surfing has been a part of me my entire life.

SUP General / Re: 3/2 Full Suit: Lower Water Temp Comfort?
« on: March 06, 2015, 03:55:00 AM »
You guys are lucky to have so much internal warmth.

I call my 3/2 my summer suit.  I wear it when air temps are below 70 degrees.

When it gets below 50 degrees I pull out the 4/3.

When it gets below 40 I pull out the drysuit. I would need at least a 6/4 wetsuit. Not only are they expensive but they are very restricting and uncomfortable. I've been thinking of wearing the 3/2 over the 4/3 but haven't tried it in the water yet.

I only use wetsuits for surfing. They make sense in the surf where you often spend a lot of time in the water. I've never tried them on flatwater just because the drysuit is far superior in that element.

I recently put some clear RSP on my new gleaming white Stun Gun. At first I was a little concerned about the textured surface having a negative hydrodynamic affect but I tend to over think things. I'm glad to see everyone is liking it.

The clear offsets the color of the white making the gloss look a little drab due to the texture. It's no big deal but now I'm wondering if the black might look better.
