Say you wanted to wing foil some shallow tidal places that weren't too choppy. What would be the shortest practical mast length that would still give you reasonable performance? Does anyone use shorter masts specifically for shallow water foiling?

It's easy to hang my Duotone Unit on a hook in the garage between sessions. Would it be better to hang it inflated or deflated? Will hanging it from the handle for days/weeks at a time cause damage?

Or should I roll it up and put it on a shelf?

I'm 63, 6' tall, 175 lbs. Total beginner after SUP surfing for 8 years. I'll be winging on inland bays and the ocean.

So I ordered my wing, 5m Duotone Unit.

And my board, Naish S26 Hover Wing GS 125 liters. I went with the bigger board because I'm hoping it will be easy to learn on at my age and might also double as a SUP foil board.

Now I'm trying to decide on a foil. I was thinking of the Naish S26 Jet Foil but can't decide between the 1650 or the 2000.

What size should I be leaning towards?

The Naish foils seem a little high-priced. Are there any good alternative brands I should look at?

Mostly, I want to know what size front foil wing will work best for me with this board.

I'm ready to get into wingfoiling but want to avoid buying the wrong gear.

I'm 63yo, 6' tall, 175 pounds. Eight years SUP surfer. Five years windsurfing in the '80s.

Using the Starboard Wingboard as an example https://sup.star-board.com/wing-boarding/wingboard/ would the 6'7 x 28" at 115 liters or something similar be a good size to learn on?

What size foil should I be looking for?

What is the best wing size for moderate winds? I'm guessing typical wind speeds will be 15 - 20 mph.

Any suggestions on what brands to go with? Ease of learning, performance and something I won't grow out of too quickly are what I'm looking for, but I also don't want to spend too much.

So far, I really like the looks and price of the Starboard Wingboard 6'7 in the Lite Tech. Any opinions on these?

Gear Talk / E-Z Fuse Tape = excellent paddle grip.

E-Z Fuse Tape provides incredible grip. I wrapped a one-foot section on the shaft and a couple of times around the handle and the grip is amazing.

Only $5 for a ten-foot roll at Home Depot.  https://supergluecorp.com/product/e-z-fuse-tape/

I'm surprised I've never seen this mentioned on the forums.

I got to surf the Outer Reef this morning. Conditions were waist to chest with occasional head high sets. Choppy with a light to moderate SW wind. This would have been very difficult for me on the 8'10 Sunova Flow and just the conditions that I bought the Outer Reef for.

10'6 X 32"  165 liters. 61 years old. I weigh 175.

Stability was perfect. Just stable enough to comfortably handle the chop. On clean days I'll be able to do entire sessions without falling which I haven't done in years since I started riding shorter boards.

I went to two surf spots. The first one had mushy chest high waves. No crowd, just one other guy. The board has excellent glide. I caught waves that I didn't even expect to catch. It turns like a big shortboard. The beveled rails made very smooth carves. The board had plenty of speed and didn't feel slow at all.

The second spot was head high, steeper and a little less choppy. I was able to paddle for waves with a lot more confidence than I would have with the 8'10. The extra glide made catching the waves a lot easier. The board really flew on these waves. I laid down some nice turns. I love the way it surfs.

I'm still not sure if I should have gotten the 10 foot 152 liter version instead. Each length seems to have advantages. I think I'd be happy with either one.
