YEAH  ;D

Can't wait for the race board showcase!

I've decided to shape and glass my own race boards for my wife and I.

I am torn between going the Stuey route or Foote route, displacement versus planing. I'm limited to 14 feet by garage space.

Gear Talk / Re: handle on PSH boards?

Where handles help at our beach, is running for your life to escape the huge shore break. Prior to having a handle, I'd often be forced to grab the leash and run like hell up the beach, dragging and SCRATCHING the crap out of my board's bottom. Since having a handle, my boards are scratch free.

After having boards with and without handles, I'm in favor of them, provided someone creates a handle hole that doesn't catch toes.

Somebody needs to make it happen.

I used the handi rack in Hawaii for my rental SUP. Way better suited for HUGE boards than soft racks.

. I RELIGIOUSLY use curbside check in, especially if I'm carrying something big. Twenty buck tip to a guy who will appreciate it or a chance of a $75 excess baggage charge disappearing into an uncaring maw.

Me too  ;D

Tipped a guy in Atlanta $20 and he took my bag and bypassed the huge line and even jumped behind the counter and checked me in himself. My surfboard flew free.

Does anyone know if they plan on something other than yellow for these new boards?

With all these new hot shapes, all we need are hot colors now.

I had my butt whipped today but now realize I gotta practice some sprints.. Watched the paddlers in front of me pull away and they were stroking 3 to my one... guess I need to work on some technique

You should go to one of the SUPAH clinics on Oahu. Todd Bradley really helped my technique. I was pulling with my bottom hand, boy did I have it wrong.

...... They will  charge you $175 for an oversize checked bag upto 80". ....

Yep, that's why you take it as a fishing rod. They fly free.

Order the Bass Pro patch and sew it on your bag. At least until someone makes us this bag.

I saw a new model Dakine vest when I was in Hawaii last week. At least it was new to me.

It was not the Matrix, this one was a tow-in specific vest with handle on the shoulders, so the sled guy could grab you.

It had more floatation than the Matrix and didn't have the elastic band under the arm pit that gives some people fit problems with the Matrix.

Gear Talk / Re: Need board advice! C4 Vortice (bw) vs C4 Holoholo?
« on: February 06, 2009, 03:51:51 AM »
You're right about the leash plugs working well for attaching things.

Here is what I found when comparing the two boards between me and the wife.

At my wife's weight, the Holoholo looks exactly like a Vortice, nose scoop and all. It even paddles with similar speed.

At my weight, the Holoholo is slower and the nose rides low.

So with me on the Vortice, and the wife on the Holoholo, we look like twins.

Therefore, for your weight, I'd say Vortice is what you want.

And if you feel like a road trip, I've got one for sale cheap.

CHill and DW, I orderd a set  of fins for Jamie an I .. Will have to play with the set ups..   The 452's and the375's pivot as a set  Future vectors we'llsee how they work... We still have no waves in our future. Looks flat for a few day.. I jinxed the surf gods with a new board..
Here are the stats on the fins..

Future Fins Quad - Scimitar Fin Size:
Height: 4.52 in. 11.5 cm
Base: 4.37 in. 11.1 cm
Area: 15.39 in.² 99.29 cm²

 Scimitar Rear Fins: Pivot Rears
Height: 3.75 in. 9.5 cm
Base: 2.82 in. 7.2 cm
Area: 8.29 in.² 53.48 cm²

I have a set of Scimitar fins. They are pretty radical with that twisted tip. I couldn't surf with them. Too radical for me. I fell on my face.

gjbsup,

Here are some pics of my new board.  Going to use these fins first and also try it with the small fins in the back.  Also have another set of vector quads I use on a step-up board that I use when I travel, good Hatteras and occasionally around here.  Will post those pics later.

437 fronts and big rears, looks like a stiff setup. Although the board is so loose, you might not notice.

Having just rented in Oahu, may I offer a tip?

Fly with your own paddles.

Boards were easy to find everywhere. A good paddle, sized right, is harder to find.

If you want your own domain name, then you open yourself up to complications and slow web site hosting.

Whenever I tell someone my web site name, I don't bother trying to give the full URL. I just say Google "NC Paddle Surfer" and you'll hit it instantly.

Blogspot, being a Google site, is fast, easy, and idiot proof. Highly recommended.
