SUP General / Re: Problems with fin box on new PSH 10'3" AA« on: July 11, 2009, 02:00:09 PM »
I had a PSH like that too. No problem, I just ground the pin ends down.
I think the brass pin in the stock fin was metric and US fins have slightly larger pins. 3963
SUP General / Re: SUP and weight loss« on: July 10, 2009, 09:29:09 AM »DW: Thanks for the info. So, what are you aiming for in terms of daily caloric intake? I didn't count calories, or even read the book Nutri-System sent me. Too complicated and I'm too lazy. I like my life simple. But you can see from my list the calories added up to just under 1000 per day. I got down to 178 lbs and I'm 6'2. It took 2 1/2 months to reach that weight. I've since moderated my diet to something more reasonable to maintain for life. My current diet is to follow the routine stated previously up to dinner time, when I eat anything I want, except half the portions I used to eat. That has been holding my weight around 182 for months now. 3964
SUP General / Re: SUP and weight loss« on: July 10, 2009, 07:06:49 AM »Dwight, Agreed, Nutri System teaches you how, then you are free to improve on it. The sad part is you don't know what tastes good and what tastes bad until you get your first month shipped. I got bad headaches from some of the dinner items. No MSG in there, but there must be something my body didn't like. Now that I know how its done, I've taught a few co-workers how to do it using better tasting items at the grocery store. This is almost identical to Nutri-Sytems dinner items, only it tastes great. Cost $2.50 each http://www.hormelfoods.com/brands/hormel/HormelCompleats.aspx This is almost identical to the Nutri-Systems Lunch, only it tastes great. Cost $1.20 each http://www.hormelfoods.com/brands/hormel/HormelMicrowaveCups.aspx The real secret, I think, is small portions with 100 calorie snacks in between meals. The snacks make it possible to live on small portions. 3965
SUP General / Re: SUP and weight loss« on: July 10, 2009, 03:29:19 AM »And maybe check into Nutrisystem. I can give you my grocery store substitute Nutrisystem. It tastes great and calories are close to the same. After 2 weeks on Nutrisystems, I figured I could buy almost the same stuff at the store and it tasted better. I threw the final 2 weeks of Nutri food in the trash. For breakfeast- oatmeal. snack between meal, 100 calorie snack packs. For lunch- kids meal. Hormel mac and cheese, beans and weenies, beefaroni. 200-290 calories snack between meal, 100 calorie snack pack. For dinner- "Hormel Completes" mircowave dinner. 250-350 calories. Important, not the frozen stuff. The vac packed and sealed stuff. It tastes way better than frozen. snack for later, 100 calorie snack pack. You can add veggies to your meals under the Nutri plan. But the main foods are almost identical, but with way more chemicals inside and they taste like it too. 3966
SUP General / Re: SUP and weight loss« on: July 08, 2009, 12:19:13 PM »I have been paddling for going on 3 yrs now and unlike everyone here, and all of my pals hereabouts, I have seen no physical good come from it. Same with me. 2 1/2 years, never lost a pound. But I was active before SUP. My favorite sport just changed. I finally got pissed and tried Nutri-System for one month. It tasted like shit, but it taught me the right portions for each meal (at my age of 55) and the little snacks in between that allow you to eat like a bird. It's time to start eating portions like your grandparents. We're old farts now! I went from 205 to 185 and its been easy to stay there. 3967

You're correct Chan, I do struggle with my paddle stroke going too far. All the board speed often catches me out and my strokes end up zooming past my hip. Then my paddle catches trying to release it.
I shortened my paddle 1 1/2" last night to help this problem. I was surprised by the amount of paddle wander on entry the video shows. I'm hopeful Jacky will get closer in speed. We've windsurfed together for years. She could beat 70% of the men on the water in racing. So I hope she excels at downwinding too. 3969

I'd love to have the more experienced downwinders critique this downwind run. To get things rolling, here is a list of some questions.
1) How do Randy and Chan manage doing downwinders together. Are your speeds close? Jacky's getting better all the time. I just have more experience at the moment. 2) How does my board look? Too much water on the deck? I think I read somewhere the current thinking is water on the deck slows you down. Should my next build be thicker? 3) Jacky's board is 27 1/4 wide with pointy tail. Mine is 28 wide with wide tail. I'm leaving a lot of wake. Any thoughts? 4) Feel free to comment on anything else you notice. I'm always looking to improve. We run alone a lot. 3970
Gear Talk / Re: PSH Quads...« on: July 05, 2009, 04:00:57 AM »When I tried a quad shortboard I felt the board seemed slower. Am I wrong? Yes, but maybe not wrong about the one you tried. There are a few quads that are lemons. Try a Stretch quad to feel one done right. 3971

We shouldn't have to check this thread to find out who's with who Suggestion, if you don't mind. I was in the same situation with kitesurfing. I was not sponsored by North, but was friends with the designer and got free prototypes, and even got to know the president of the company through my feedback on designs. Therefore I made my signature say North FAN, with friends in high places. Everybody's happy when we're transparent. 3973
