I hate that the season ended at a track you can't pass on.

When will be more posted about this race, like distances, categories as per SUP age and sex, etc.?
M

Distance is stated in the poster.

If the past, no age classes.

Yes to men and women's classes.

for people finding it slippery, did you thourougly wash it before first use with detergent and a brush?
New versatraction has some product on it (I guess to not stick to machines used to make it) that makes it slippery if you do not wash it well.

That's interesting, because the first board I ever installed it on, had the best traction of all the boards I'm using it on. I did something different on that first board. I rubbed the heck out of it with a squeegee getting some air bubbles out. To the point it was looking like I had rubbed off some of the frosted finish. On the other boards my install skills improved and no rubbing with a squeegee was required.

I think may go rub the deck on the other boards, or at least scrub the deck as you suggest.

I'm using it on my paddle shaft. It's the best shaft grip I've used. Beats Monster Grip, wax, or the bumpy stick-on sheets, for great grip without blisters.

The bummer is you have to spiral wrap the shaft to keep the ends from pealing up. The versa traction is too thick and doesn't like being bent around the shaft wrapped any other way.

I'd love to see versa traction make a thinner version so it wraps paddle shafts without this issue, because the grip is perfect for paddles. I still don't know how anyone can paddle without some kind of grip. My hands slide all over a bare shaft.

Gear Talk / Re: PSH Ripper 8'0" (regular) review

Does anyone know if a 8'6" Wide ripper would have the same stability as the old 9'3"?

YES, my friends own both and I've surfed them. I've surfed the 8'0 too. I think the 8'6 WR is the best of the three.

but about 99% of boards out there are do not have wood verneers.

Not yet, but wait a little while.

We're still in limbo from the Clark Foam closure.

Some people still don't get along with EPS/epoxy boards. Wood is a good solution for some.

Construction is becoming as personal as the shaper who built your stick. Everybody's got an opinion and they all work, just maybe not for everyone. If you don't like wood, good for you. I don't like 1.5# EPS under 2-3 layers of glass and epoxy. But that's me. My last 2 custom SUP were not my cup of tea.

Regan could fix it. The young may not remember the balls it took to fire all the air traffic controllers and hire non union replacements. That guy had big balls. He deregulated the airlines and told those that couldn't live without it, to just go under!

He'd end unemployment now!

« on: October 28, 2010, 03:25:06 AM »
I found a Rocker Div. 1S windsurfer for sale cheap and wondered if it is even worth trying

I'm not 100% sure, but that sounds like a full round bottom racing class windsurfer from when the hard core fleet racers were all on displacement hulls. That would be the ONLY windsurfer that would not work for SUP. Find another one.

Too unstable.

DW could have done a better video, but Jacky might not be enthusiastic about it.

Ah, but when she was young.....

I broke her arm teaching her to hang glide

It looks great, how are they for strength and what is inside them? proper foam sandwich?

Foam sandwich surfs like shit. Wood surfs better. Last year there were isolated pieces of foam sandwich, only where it had to be under the wood.

A walk around my home towns 15+ surf shops will find 1% foam sandwich PRONE surfboards. Surftech's prone surfboards are near extinct around here. Ever hear of Firewire bamboo surfboards? They're everywhere
