Beautiful board. Congrats  ;D

Some versatraction on the nose would keep it looking pretty. I love the stuff.

Here is the ding stick they've been selling to windsurfers for the last 20 years.

http://www.isthmussailboards.com/prodinfo.asp?number=WH09001

Your board is "windsurfer construction"

This ding stick is just repackaged epoxy putty stick from Lowes and Home Depot.

You break off a piece, kneed it in your hands to mix the core hardener and it can be placed on a repair and put right in the water before curing. Although I've never been desperate enough to try going in before it got hard.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I'll try to get in touch with him and see what we can work out.

After doing some research online I wanted to get a second opinion from some more experinced people on the board.  This is my first ding as well as the first I've seen in person.

I have attached a pic of the ding.  There is a crack running perpendicular to the rail and a small buckle running parallel to the rail.

Is this something that is only cosmetic or is there more damage than I can see?  If only cosmetic will it be ok to cover with clear packing tape to keep out water and handle the repair later?  Or should I get this repaired ASAP?

That board has PVC foam wrapped rails. That means you have some green "water proof" foam under the skin protecting the inner EPS core (EPS does absorb water). You can get away with just using packing tape for temporary sealing. But even better, you can lightly sand and fill that crack with epoxy ding putty stick. The stuff sold in the hardware store, often in the plumbing section. Another emergency method is 5 minute epoxy. The stuff selling for $5.00 at the hardware store. Just smear some 5 minute epoxy on the crack until you can have it repaired right.

I never travel without instant ding fix materials like putty stick or 5 minute epoxy.

The beauty of painted boards, is the endless options it creates for emergency ding repair.

Surf someplace else. It sure doesn't look like some choice point break, so why not surf elsewhere.

Just this past weekend, we had 10+ SUPs surfing 100 yards down the beach from 10+ prone guys and only 2 who felt the need to mingle.

Went I got rid of the slidy stock fins my speed increased without any stiffening of the board. My wife likes the medium H3s in her 7'3 and I run the large H3s in my 7'8.

I found all the thrusters combinations I tried, beat all the quad combinations I threw at it.

I'd like to hear what you think if you try thrusters.

I surfed her 7'3 once. It was tough!

It's a controller rear fin and Poncho front fin. Look those up.

Try the 9'5 Naish Mana. You'll surf like a hero. It's well suited to east coast waves and balanced challenged surfers.

the 32" width makes all the difference, plus friendly nose rocker

You can't put paint on deck pads. (monster paint)

Hi there from the UK, where/who are you guys buying your vent plugs from? there is no one in the UK stocking anything the like...cheers...SD

These are the ones seen in most production boards.

If you're a shaper you can buy direct at wholesale from the guy Foamez gets them from and he is Pete and his email is casica@earthlink.net. You pay using Paypal and he ships postal mail.

Regarding marks, boards get paddle marks....surfing and racing.  I use Mastic tape for some edge protection, but the trade off is nice black marks from the tape.  The solution - OnIt Pro's Blue Goo.

Install blue electrical tape over the mastic. No more marks and no need for Goo cleaner.

The handle is more comfortable to step on while surfing too!

Imagine how easy it would be to glass a board knowing that you are just going to paint over it.  I don't think it would require as much craftsmanship.

Not true. It's actually harder to make a painted board. Clear resin makes it "hard" to see imperfections. Apply paint, and those imperfections JUMP out at you.

On the other hand, production rejects are easier to repair and ship as new and avoid the whole blem issue.

The reason most Chinese boards are painted, is to hide the ugly divinicell foam. It's a hard, ugly colored foam. Very durable and expensive to include in board construction.

Because you already have the Bark, I'd agree with DJ on the Glide.

I was just looking over the new Fanatic 14 footer yesterday in a local shop. It had a rolled bottom. I've seen a lot of rolled bottoms on new shapes this season. C4's latest board has one too. These new bread of shapes might win the races, but without a dead flat planing bottom like the Glide, you're just not going to get the thrill of a high speed plane. That rat-tat-tat sound from the hull when it gets up and flys. And that is the thrill that downwinding is all about for me.

POSITIVE ATTITUDE.

Helps a lot

Then when your legs get tired, rest on land, not at sea sitting. You'll recover balance quicker standing on the land, then go again.
