SUP General / Re: Blair SUP - WaveRod - Honesty and Ethics?
« on: May 22, 2009, 03:39:14 AM »
Joe,
When I read your post, I can tell that your heart is heavy with this, and also that you are an honest man.  Sean was always one of the most positive people on the water.

Will try get this thread posted on some of the Kitesurfing forums....Mr Fry has ties to that industry, and any industry ties/sponsors should at least hear your story.  It's springtime/early summer....time to weed the garden.

Also distributers  for "Wave Rod Hawaii"
such as Ocean Extreme Sports
http://www.oceanextremesports.com/catalog/boatskayaks-c-54.html

Should know about the product that they sell.

We all love the ocean....burns when somebody tries to take advantage.  Thinking about your  problem makes me respect the kanaka maoli even more for all they put up with along these same lines

Technique / Paddle Signals
« on: May 18, 2009, 05:52:37 AM »
Anybody standardized signalling with your paddle to your buds yet?

1) "It's good here, c'mon over"

2) "I'm, done/outta here"  etc

The other day my bud holds his paddle straight blade up high....after i made a drop and  wipe out.....have no idea what he was trying to say, but it just seems like someone should have worked out a "code" by this time
   2 paddles could do semaphore?

seems to be something symbolic about the way the arms and the paddle meet ....very symmetric
like...a closed loop....must try to emmulate this stance

Rash guard OVER the camelbak works to keep it tight and not floppy

I do like the "Surf-all day" vest....make it an impact, and you are all set!

Cheater version that I'm liking alot:   The kids drink CAPRI SUN PACKS
They are 200 cc....strong foil pack....throw em under your wetsuit, or in your surf trunk pocket .....just add rum for that sunset sesh!

PonoB.,
none of our newb crowd is ready to leave the sandbox just yet...we're just falling and laughing at this early stage.
nor are we ready to give up our other toys...unless Water-Kook can show me a SUP/Foward loop. ehh-KooK?......just jam the paddle real hard i guess

Downwinders on kites/sailing already done, so the sups will follow, but i think at least i'm in that hypnotic early phase where it's just fun to make lazy 8's around a little peak, and get the wave count up....sort of like when you ski right onto the lift chair. ...constant motion all day...addictive.

Axe:  Friday may even be tough if there's alot of south to the wind....There's some good stuff up in Truro ...Head of Meadow and Pamet which would be sheltered....We'll be OTW somewhere as my swell senses are tingling slightly but prob with a sail......I'm hoping for a dawn patrol sup saturday......

swell not the issue....wind will be
right now i wouldn't bother with thursday.
i'll likely be wavesailing with water-kook
(only time work gets done around here is when there is no wind/no waves)

Friday has potential.....3 hours before thru three hours after low-tide for wellfleet
Saturday too far out, but seems possible

Oh, the and Kook has taught me.....it's always windy on Mother's Day

nope....just part of the same dysfunctional family....was either the Kook early, or the aformentioned "I'll never ride that aircraft carrier" shortboarder....but growing none-the-less.

What the Kook didn't say was that after the sesh on Sat, there was a party....band.....beer....twirling hippie chicks etc....teasing, and the old sup/prone back and forth.
So the next morning a die hard shortboarder runs out and adds a SUP to his credit card.....runs down to the break and stuffs his fellow proners.  go figure.......
But at least now, i'm an Official Team Rider

well  it wasn't that hard a guess !.....what with maybe 8 sups that i've seen around the coast!now that i recognize the truck, i've seen you around a few times last year when i was among the prone.   You passed Jerry and I  a couple of weeks ago when we went to Coast guard, and you went further out

anyway, it's true, i'm very grateful to this forum for all the positive stoke and input, and you do add to it...it was nice to meet you.

going prone tommorow with the wife.....she still thinks the PSH is a demo board....

BTW i did hit whitecrest, what last week maybe .....the set up is nicer than last year, but it will take at least waist high to make it work except for very low tide....i tend to hit that place very early or sunset in mid summer

Below is a letter from one of the guys who got car smashed.
Obviously hurts his soul.   The interesting thing about this is that Marconi is federal
property...so if it goes to prosecution.....geez.

"I'm not sure what to say, but I have to say something about this. Whoever you are, that did this, you are a coward. Would you have the guts to do this to me or any of my kids? If you are truly a local, you know who I am and you know who my kids are. I wasn't born on Cape Cod. I'm a washashore, like most of you or your parents were at one time. Before moving here in 1969 I was a visitor, a tourist, a non-local, that drove down here from the South Shore to surf. Would you have trashed my car back then? You obviously couldn't be a very good surfer if you feel so threatened by a visitor that you'd trash his car when nobody was looking. Were they getting all the waves? Was it making you feel inadequate as a surfer, or as a man, that sombody from out of town was better than you? The line-up is competitive. Either step it up or step out. I don't know the kids from out of town that were victimized. I'm sorry for them. I do know Luke. He's one of the nicest kids around and he certainly didn't deserve this. I hope that you caught and prosecuted by the law. I think that, if you do surf, you should quit. We don't want you in our line-up.
Billy Sullivan"

I wouldn't....lived Maui 7 years....but my wife likes shitty weather...and i like my wife

What both places have in common is that you can look right past a crowd of people and see a friend...and that the best spots are not the popular ones

On a decent swell, Marconi is a shortboarders wave that works at high tide.  It has only a few take-off spots, and is technical with a weird vibe at times.
Don't under-estimate how somebody who surfed/lived thru the coldest months feels when people show up on the first warm days.

None-the-less, it was a stupid kid move....the perp has been outed, but the damage is done as now instead of "stupid kid" its "localism", and some posturing will occur, and people who don't know each other will look with eyes of suspicion.   Simply saying "howzit" works

For the Cape, as in Hawaii:   "Come-come-come!.....just dont' forget to go home!" :)

Sorry Clay, i am not same.
Decidedly not ripping (yet !)
biggest problem is i'm overdigging to get the wave....that is a prone leftover.
Once moving....maybe i rip in tiny bits

None-the-less, i'm plugged into the wilder side of the Cape...and have some spots that rock...you get down this way, we'll hook you up.

Stoneaxe: Met jody/Vec...almost ended up with a V board...Didn't really hit whitecrest last year after the bar moved winter 07....but looks like i will this year,
in fact alot of good potential spots this year....I have a fly-over  planned for the coast this month ...been hitting Chatham lately
