Wind Powered / Re: Windfoil crash.
« on: January 09, 2019, 06:37:37 PM »
I hit a seal at speed...stopped pretty quick..... no blood on either end

Probably not gonna put a helmet on .. But it's gotta be pretty hairy rounding marks with 5  guys right behind you going full out

Mostly at least a square meter smaller sail size than what you would rig otherwise....

My 5'10" wave sailing  Frankenfoil is almost ready for vacuum bagging

Sailing position is a bit awkward at first

Its pretty fun

The Shape Shack / Divinycell OVER fiberglass skin?
« on: December 09, 2018, 08:02:51 AM »
Wanting to change to a flatter rocker on a conversion to foilboard

Planning to tack a divinycell wedge (to flatten rocker) down to the sanded existing skin, and then vac it down with a covering layer of carbon/glass

Was going to tack it with maybe just contact cement spray ...or gorilla glue as the strength will come from the new skin....just need it steady while fairing it

Stripping the pre-existing bottom skin would save weight, but then I'd have to fair up a bigger mess with more pockets and tack the diviynicell to beat up foam

Thoughts?   TIA

I hear ya, but if you can't find one soon, consider
https://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/spo/d/boardworks-paddle-surf-hawaii/6694694427.html

from Brownsugahs thread
I know it's wider, but the rocker's killer

what he said...

Late drop...feel the woosh

So maybe per Beasho , the best way to compare/measure would be pure upward lifting force at different speeds each foil.

Surface area and width not so helpful...

Granted that's not 'surfability, but for this year at least, it feels like theres almost too many choices, and I would like to be able to have one front with a couple of tail wings for low speed sailing, and surfing

THis vid seems helpful:

I like sailing the H2, but wouldn't surf it unless I had a big rear wing

Well Stoney,
In answer to your question, does all the research affect behavior:
(same boat different day)

I remember when they said they wouldn't chum, then when there were no fish....they chummed

This stoke-bump was from last Sept  :
http://www.surfline.com/video/webisodes/full-edit-the-winding-coast_149912

It was good here, then 24 hours later, good there.

I would just go with a 4/3....Booties for rocks but shouldn't be worse....and you might be fine with a 3/2

Around Peggy's cove, but some put ins are tough

Have fun!!

Technique / Re: Turning for incoming wave
« on: July 31, 2018, 08:31:29 AM »
Adding my occasional .

It's a sublety, but really helps on a pivot:

Sink the tail deep, and use the rebound floatation to drive the board forward

There are alot of good proners who push their short boards backwards and deep, just prior to takeoff....the bouyancy pushback pops them up for a perfect one or two stroke takeoff.

So if you can get a tight pivot tun by sinking the tail....you can time a power paddle stroke to complete rotation just when that tail tail will want to lift up/out.
It means that you have to be willing to sink the tail deep enough that you will fall if you dont power stroke, but per some of the other posts...lake practice is great for that

The Shape Shack / Re: dropping an Abox fin into a Futures box

Worked better and quicker than expected.
I did drill the back post groove first, then it was belt sander to get best fit

The Shape Shack / dropping an Abox fin into a Futures box
« on: July 24, 2018, 06:59:17 AM »
Need a center fin that's slightly larger than any available Futures  (maybe 6")

Have plenty o fins, and thinking of cutting/grinding  one down to a Futures insert template.....

Can live with the thought that I might blow out the box.

Any thoughts suggestions tips?

Yes Marc...the Ripper is a GREAT board for windy/gnarly !!!!

...i wish there were more like em....heavier board works better for that stuff...longer for an earlier in, and pulled nose.  I love my 9'6   Sometimes wish it was lighter and smaller, but not in winter!

I never kited...stayed with windsurfing....so now i just switch over when it's time....paddle into the mid to high teens windspeed,  then sail

2 of your best vids ever btw

(B curious to see how that new hull paddler deals with same....sweet board! )

The Shape Shack / Re: Can you reshape a SUP?
« on: May 09, 2018, 06:41:02 AM »
Noo Noo
There's kind of a nice surf movie called Drift (Now on Netflix) , and it goes thru all the reshaping thing as part of the story line

You definitely could reshape, but...
1. Messy unless you are "Experienced"....More money than you think for a One-off
2. EPS is not much fun to shape
3. You'll need much more rocker in the nose than you will get if you just glass off (as Bean stated)...so you would probably have to remove glass at least another foot or so back then taper etc.
4.  Kinda screaming  7 'foil board to me....but now you're into 20 hours+  and for what...you got money back....best to let go...find some kid to burden

Coffee table?
