I think you are fine with just your standard THULE racks/pad/straps.  Just make sure you are using quality straps.  Should not have any problems and will save you money.

So does anyone know if the 3M peel and stick will work on new startouch.?
Abrade lighty and apply?

I have put a Dakine tract top Tailpad on one and no problems.  Would be guessing that the 3M peel n stick is the same.  Should be fine.

Much thanks to my brother for getting up early and shooting these two days.  He did a great job considering he was shooting into the sun all morning.  This was a two day session that was not big but fun and clean.  Waves were knee to waist but good times and good people.  The second guy in the session is EastFL.  This guy is killing it on the PSH 96 ripper.  Enjoy!

I am 5'10 190 so about your size.  I have been on everything from 11' on down (currently use 9'4 8'6 7'11).  The 10' size is a great idea but really see if you can jump on something smaller to see the difference.  There's a lot of stuff in the 9'6 size (PSH Naish Starboard) that would work great in Jersey waves.  They are still plenty stable and will really work much better in the surf.  Note I am assuming this is a most SURF SUP for you?  If you want something to be a more do everything setup go bigger but for more surf specific I think you would really have more fun on a mid 9's size board.  Not sure about SC but  I know of a few shops in New Jersey that have demos in those sizes and would at least give you an idea.

Here's a guy who is 220 on a 9'6 to give you an idea.

gkona

Been using a Starboard 7'11 carbon with it.  Little different to get used to at first but now cannot stop using it.  The only thing i did was to put a Dakine Tailpad on just to feel the back of the board but other than that I have tons of grip.  Its not as harsh as standard windsurf deck grip yet I have not had any slippage problems....even with sunscreen on.  I used with booties over the winter and with bare feet and both were fine.  Board it super light without all that pad on it.

Gear Talk / Re: PSH Ripper Nose, how durable?

Have both my 86 and 94 rippers for almost a year now.  Have taken some pretty bad wipeouts on both of them including shorebreak conditions.  No problems whatsoever with the noses.  And they are nice especially on those really late drops.

PSH quads.  Been on them about a year and really pleased with them so far.  Also had the Lopez and they are nice.  had them in Tri and Quad.  For me on my 86 and 94 I prefer the PSH quads as they are a little bit smaller than the lopez.

Nice photos and writeup DJ.  Boards looks like the evolution of the All around series.  Even though your waves were small very cool perspective from the water with the swell coming in.  Cannot believe how wide these boards are.  But for a beginner I bet they will work out great.

Gear Talk / Re: Starboard 7'11" or Pro
« on: April 23, 2011, 07:56:40 AM »
I have been using a Starboard 7'11 this winter. I am 190lbs and the float of this board is amazing.  I have been out in mostly knee to stomach high clean waves and cannot say enough things about this board.  Because of it being so light (carbon version) and the small size of it you can snap this board so tightly.  Very smooth and catches waves easier than I expected with such a small board and my size.

Its not for any distance paddling (at least for me) but getting in and out of shorebreak is not a problem.  Current fin setup is a 2+1 with the center being a TK Flex which works great for this board.

This board for my size has been mostly for mushy clean Florida conditions.  Anything bigger than stomach or with some power I am on my PSH 8'6.  But for the right conditions this board it great, especially in the Carbon Construction which is the main reason I wanted to try it. Also have not had any problems without using a padded deck and the traction is fine. But I do have a Dakine tailpad for foot placement. The carbon is well worth the price.

I bought these T-Rax. They were not cheap but very high quality and are solid.  Came with all mounting hardware and easily can hold any SUP.  I have four boards on this one and works great.  Going to get another for my Race Board when it arrives.
