Travel, Trips, Destinations / SUP in Mazatlan
« on: November 08, 2022, 09:50:55 PM »
Hi guys,
My name is Tim Ellis and I’ve scheduled a trip to take my wife to Mazatlan, Mexico. I regularly surf on a SUP and would like to surf while I’m there. Does anyone know of any shops that have reasonably good “surf” SUPs? I use SUNOVAS and usually ride  boards that have 125-135 liters in volume.  Also, are there any guides to take people surfing? I’m going down the week of Feb 28- March 7, 2023 and if there are waves I’d love to reserve a board and hook up with a guide. Any info or suggestions will be appreciated!
Thanks, Tim Ellis

We had some great surf last week here in FLA and our local watermen were getting it done!!! Here’s a little video from a great local photographer, DASHER, that captures the vibe and stoke created by our surprise spring swell...SO MUCH FUN!!

Eastbound... The first three photos are of Sunzal and the next three are of Punta Mango. We also caught good surf at Las Flores. We had a guide, ALEX NOVOA the whole trip. He met us at the airport and from there took us up to Las Flores. Stayed there 3 days (took the boat to Mangos twice) and then went to El Zonte where Alex owns a great little hotel. (Esencia Nativa).. There are a couple of breaks that can be good in El Zonte but Alex took us to Sunzal for at least one session each day. Alex is the past president of the El Salvador surfing federation and their SUP national champ. He is an amazing guy and made our trip really special! The attached pic is of Alex

Creek (Rick)... Thanks for the comments. The other guy in the photos is Chris Trip. In one of the pics he’s riding my STEEZE. He brought his 8’5 Speed and a 8’10 Flow. The STEEZE road great!!!..and the surf was about as big as this OLD guy from FLA can handle. :D It was a great trip and one that will provide lifelong memories!!!

Leaving EL Salvador tomorrow AM after a GREAT week of surf🤪!!! Surfed both Las Flores and Punta Mango the first 4 days and the Sunzal the last three. Head high ++ everyday. A little apprehensive coming down here but El Salvador turned out to be a WONDERFUL place. (Plus our guide, Alex Novoa was the BEST!!!)
For those interested, this place can be challenging. The breaks can get crowded, it’s rocky and not for beginners BUT... as you can see from the pics there are plenty of amazing waves to be had🤗... As far Standup Paddlers, other than Alex (The El SAL National Champ) we only saw one other SUPer in the water. Still, everyone in the breaks was friendly and NO negative vibes. Great place, GREAT TRIP... Totally STOKED😄😃👍🤙!!!!

Here’s a post I did about a year and a half ago about the 8’10 STEEZE. Still have the board and still loving it! Definitely my “go to “ board!!

Here’s a pic of the vibrams... you don’t need to worry about draining since the fit so snug. Very light weight, you don’t even know they’re on and the soles are tough enough to handle reef and lava rock..

Vibrams are the best reef booties I’ve found. Used them for at least the last 8-10 years on trips to Fiji, Hawaii, Nicaragua, Mexico, El Salvatore, Costa Rica, Barbados...etc. would NEVER go on a surf trip without them!! Get the low profile model (with the strap across the top of the foot) and be sure to try a pair on and get the right size!!

Here’s a video from one of the early years. We always stay at the Plantation... great place with lots of amenities!! Good for kids and adults.. Highly recommend it!! Have FUN!!
