Does anyone have an all-carbon or carbon shaft/fiberglass blade paddle that you no longer need?  Adjustable going down to 70”, or maybe a fixed around 72”?  I have a limited budget.  Currently in Seattle, but heading to western NC in a few weeks.  Thanks!

Ke Nalu / Info Needed
« on: May 22, 2017, 02:54:58 PM »
Could anyone explain the differences between Ke Nalu products?  Shafts--- 100, 90' xtuff, xtuff(s), etc.  Blades--- Elite, Wiki, etc etc.
Now that supthecreek has shown me how easy it is to use the hot glue method, I will want a new paddle in the future.  74 blade, flexible shaft for old shoulders, a smaller shaft maybe for small hands.
I can't find the detailed info I need on Ke Nalu's website.  Thanks!

Random / Cheap but watery places to live
« on: April 26, 2017, 02:46:26 PM »
I know "cheap" and "watery" aren't often found in the same place, but I'm moving on the 15th, scouting a new home.  Somewhere livable, where I might find a job---anything, really---like an REI, hospital, vet...   For the last nine years I've been an ER Tech, so making a lot of money would be a wonderful new experience!   :)  It would be great to be able to stay on the East Coast, but if the best place is west, then that's where I'll go.  Heading to DC first to visit a friend, but I'm open after that.  This is a later-in-life change.  I need to take advantage of whatever good years I have left!
So, any suggestions?  Cheap and watery?  If it's a small town, I'd like to be near a large metro area.
Just throwing the question out there!  Thanks!

SUP General / Transport Questions
« on: April 06, 2017, 05:33:12 PM »
I'm going to be on a long, exploratory road trip soon.  I'm not sure of my destination---I'm looking for a new place to live.  I have an automatic Honda Fit.  I get decent gas mileage, but of course the engine is kind of weak.  I have a roof rack on the car now, but I'm thinking about taking the rack off for my trip.  I was wanting to take my bike with me, but that will just be too costly.  (Most of my stuff will be in storage).  At some point along the way (hopefully at my "destination"), I'm going to buy a board.  Sorry for a long intro to a simple question: can I transport the board safely without a rack?  I have shaped foam and good straps.  I need to save every dollar I can, and the roof rack will diminish my gas mileage, not horribly, but noticeably.  I might be able to carry the rack in the car, but I'm not sure about space yet.
Thank you for any thoughts y'all have on this!

Quickbeam, maybe I'll make it to BC!

SUP General / Charleston and Seattle Zoners
« on: March 21, 2017, 05:49:47 AM »
I'm finally going to be moving, and I have two possibilities.  I might go back to Seattle after a twenty year absence.  I have a lot of friends out there.  The other option is Charleston, where I might get a job at MUSC.
For the Seattle Zoners:  is there EVER decent paddling weather out there?  Decent for me would mean not having to wear a wetsuit (I'm a thin-blooded southerner).  What can I expect, for both SUP and kayaking?
For the Charleston Zoners:  can you advise me on inexpensive yet safe areas to live?  I would be an ED Tech, which is a good job but low-income.  I will probably need to share a space, but I don't know anything about Charleston neighborhoods.

Thank you all for your thoughts!

Gear Talk / Paddle weight?
« on: April 07, 2016, 06:08:29 AM »
I'm looking at two paddles:  a 3-piece travel adjustable and a 2-piece adjustable.  Weights are 21.5 ounces and 19.25 ounces.  Not being a long-time paddler, and not being able to buy multiple paddles, I'm curious to hear what you folks think about small differences in paddle weight.  The blades and construction will be the same.  Will 2.25 ounces matter that much?  How noticeable would that be?  Thanks for your input.

SUP General / Buying a board online
« on: March 15, 2016, 04:20:44 PM »
Does anyone have knowledge about getting a board shipped from places like paddleboarddirect.com or paddleva.com, or any other online store?  Heard good things?  Bad things?
Thanks for your input!

Random / Takata Airbag Recall
« on: March 01, 2016, 04:10:00 PM »
I just found out today that my Honda Fit is included in the recall.  Honda is supposed to provide loaner cars upon request, but I'm wondering how you folks have handled it?  From what I've read, regardless of the priority group, NHTSA has given companies until 12/31/17 to get them repaired.  Surely many of you have vehicles that are included in the recall.

It's time for me to get a paddle.  I've always used Werner for kayaking and SUP, but I'd like to hear thoughts on the Kialoa.  It looks like the main differences are the adjusting devices and the blade material.  Opinions either way? Thanks!

Gear Talk / Bic ACE-TEC construction
« on: January 27, 2016, 02:42:03 PM »
Is anyone out there using an Ace-Tec board?  I'm looking specifically at the Wing 11'.  Is the Ace-Tec build durable?  I don't plan on dropping it or banging it on rocks, but you never know.  Mainly, will the board have the longevity to make it worth the money?  Thanks for your input!

Gear Talk / Buying a used inflatable
« on: January 16, 2016, 09:15:12 AM »
I have an opportunity to buy a used Red Paddle Co 11' Sport.  What do you think I should look for besides the obvious scuffs, etc?  Thanks for your advice!
