Random / Car suggestions.. bought car after lease ended
« on: December 21, 2021, 01:37:51 PM »
ok so I just bought my 2019 Honda Pilot after the lease ended. The payoff amount was determined pre Covid and now used cars are selling way above the predetermined value at the end of the lease...my payoff was $21,900.

Going by the Blue Book and Edmunds values,  private party the car is worth $32-34,000 and $30k or so trade in. Car Guru offered me $35,600 but I don't know if that is a scam.

debating whether to sell/trade in my car for a new one, lease a new car , keep my car.  it has only 17800 miles on it.

I HATE car shopping. I know I ALWAYS get screwed, but this time it looks like I made out alright and want to take advantage of it....any suggestions?   thanks

When not enjoying the water below my house, I head out to different beaches and  I have been using a Mule to transport all my water toys over the years..surfboards, windsurfers, SUPs and now my foil board.  The board was a bit too wide and the wheels were rubbing the paint off the rails so I had to be McGyver and make my own axle wide enough. A carpenter friend had a plastic epoxy rod which I cut to length and it fits perfectly. Bends a little but has held up great so far.  I highly recommend the Mule for easy board transport by hand, bike or in my case ATV

Wingfoiling in some pretty good size non breaking ocean swells at the moment.  I have no problem riding the swells with the wing. My issue is when I am riding out through the swells and jibing for a return run with the swells, I keep breaching when jibing in the face of the swell.  I’m sure it has something to do with my weight placement. I am trying to keep a lot of front foot pressure but even so, the foil has come up high and either breached or I came crashing down, usually wiping out.

I have no issues jibing on flat /small chop.

Any suggestions?

Two good sessions so far with perfect conditions on Bequia.  Jimmy Lewis Flying V, Fanatic Aero Foil and Duotone Unit 5m.. wish I had a smaller wing specific board, but the Flying V serves as SUP foil too. Used my 4.2 F-One today in stronger winds. Learning the harness.
Thanks to my patient wife for taking the video from the deck.

Wingsurfing, Windfoiling, Wingfoiling, Wing SUP / Harness alternative
« on: November 27, 2021, 06:08:49 AM »
I was just curious and wondering if there was something other than a harness that would help prevent arm and hand fatigue...
I was wondering if something like what gymnasts wear for the uneven bars
Then I Came upon this product on a FaceBook Vintage Windsurfing group...it was listed as one of the worst products ever designed for windsurfing so obviously it was a failure.  But interesting nonetheless

Hey, anyone willing to sell their Duotone valve adapter?  Maybe you switched brands and don't need it?

Every dealer I have contacted is sold out...

thanks

Wingsurfing, Windfoiling, Wingfoiling, Wing SUP / quiver bag for travel?
« on: November 12, 2021, 12:43:23 PM »
Can anyone recommend a travel bag for 2 wings and pump? (no foil or board)
I have 2 Duotone Units 5 & 6 m (NO BOOM) they pack in their bags to about 36" and 48" long.  The windsurfing quiver bags I find are way too long...
Thanks

Hello, I have a F-One wing and pump but they are  out of the country so I can't check if it will accept a Duotone valve for Duotone Wing?  Hopefully the valves are interchangeable and I don't have to bring a 2nd pump...

thanks for any answers...

Ok currently riding Fanatic Aero Foil 2000 with my Fanatic Sky wing board 95 liters.  I now make 99% of my gybes and stay on foil for as long as wind and wing cooperate.  I have ridden swells but no breaking waves as yet. I own 4m, 5m and 6m wings and wing foil comfortable  in winds up to 30 knots+ (right OBX Dave?  ;D

I don't want to buy an entire set, and since the Fanatic foil system is interchangeable, I have been eyeing the 1750 and 1500 foils, but just wondering what difference will I notice riding the smaller foils?  What advantages (and disadvantages if any) will I see?  I imagine they are not for lighter winds and larger wings....thanks as always for your expert input..

We moved from Kittery up the coast to Boothbay, Maine this May.  We live on a cove off a river with a lot of submerged rocks, lobster buoys and floating oyster farms not to mention drastic tides and swirling winds.  After a month or so of investigating the Cove at all tides and wind directions, I decided to give it a shot off our dock.  I learned it is very doable with the right wind and tide, and I am looking forward to many sessions come the more predictable Fall winds.  This day the wind was light, so  I was on my big board 115 Fanatic and using 5m Duotone and 2000 Fanatic foil..really fun and memorable day

Travel, Trips, Destinations / Popham Beach, Maine Reid State Park??
« on: May 20, 2021, 05:39:30 AM »
Just moved to Boothbay, Maine after 12 years in Kittery Point.  Lovely up here.

Popham Beach is my closest surf break.

Does anyone have any information on this beach...the surf conditions , parking , etc. it says the park opens at 9 am, is it possible to surf there before the gates open?

Any information is appreciated

I own the original Duotone 4m and 5m with booms and one Unit 6m no boom, so it’s hard for me to compare.  The Unit has a lot of power and wondering how much more power an inflatable strut adds versus same sized wing with the boom set up?

I ask because I am thinking of buying a 5m Duotone Unit for travel and wondering how the power would compare to my Duotone 5m with boom?  Hopefully it will be more powerful with that inflatable strut catching a lot more wind.  I don’t want to travel with 2 wings if I can help it

Thanks

« on: March 05, 2021, 09:33:16 AM »
A good friend of mine has listed his oceanfront property in Pavones, CR for sale.  I posted this before but didn't have a price.  He is asking $630k  Its a lovely spot with many, many amenities.  He's done all the work all you have to do is enjoy it.  It also happens to be at one of the premiere surf breaks in the world which is a plus...

I am currently riding a Fanatic AERO 2000 foil with LONG FUSELAGE

I am now making most of my gybes and feel really comfortable and confident in winds from 12 mph to 30+.  I have a feeling my larger 2000 foil is slowing me down in high winds. It gets me up in minimal wind, but I think maybe in high winds it is not ideal. I want to go faster.

I want to stick with Fanatic and just change out front and rear wings and not buy new mast and fuselage.   I currently have the long fuselage 80 cm. ..will that fuselage still work if I switch out to a 1750 high aspect foil?  Any reason to get a shorter fuselage?   Thanks as always
