Sweet surfing, waves, and I appreciate the time you took to film and edit.

I like that you can leave the soloshot and your cam on the beach (unattended?).

Thanks!  I appreciate the feedback.  :)

I've been meditating on how to make a less toxic "greener" version.  I have some bamboo poles that I was going to make land paddles out of but they are to stiff for my taste.  They seem stiff enough for a camera pole though.  So I hacked one together in an hour or two.  Total cost is about  $20-30, maybe as cheap as $10 if knock off gopro attachments are used.  I look forward to testing and seeing how it holds up.

I'd have no problem happily drumming away on an attractive female posterior, but a guy's butt?  I'd have to use sticks.

Yeah, I know, homophobic. So?

I don't find it homophobic at all that you would spank a guys ass with sticks.

I laughed for a good few minutes when I read this  ;D
appreciate the clever humor

only problem is..... our waves will snap that mount off the board immediately.
I would have to find a more supple pole, that could take a beating if I wanted to film good waves.
The size of the sessions would help.... and it has a slightly wide field of view.

My local last week..... sucky beachbreak, with no mercy for boards and cameras  :)

Nice photo.  And I agree that snapping the mount off the board is one highly likely scenario.
There is another possibility that no matter how unlikely I would love to see, and that's video of a 67 year old man pulling into a heavy barrel and getting shacked out of his gourd.  That to me would be bad ass and inspiring.  :)

Thanks.  Norcal.

I like seeing the paddle out and paddling into waves also, really helps me get a feel for the bigger picture and what the overall session was like.

Thanks  Bulky.

Thanks Creek. I'd love to see your adventures with this camera angle.  You always seem be in tune with the swell and score the goods.  I've yet to see ridable east coast surf in person and so it's always a treat when you post something.

Technique / Re: Surf feet placement on fast waves and wide boards?
« on: February 25, 2016, 02:18:18 PM »
The past couple sessions I have been doing my best to be aware of my feet placement and experiment with different distances from the rail.  It's made a really noticeable difference in my SUP surfing, I have made sections I wouldn't have in the past and feel way more confident racing walls and angling on later take offs.  Trying to foot position like the pros I always felt kooky clunky and awkward and every turn felt like a huge undertaking that I had muscle my way through.  I feel stoked and that I have had a huge personal Aha! moment, I'm excited to try SUP surfing in all conditions and re-learn breaks I have yet to SUP on.  A whole new frontier for me and I am loving it  ;D

Nice video Clay. Looks like someone almost photo-bombed you around the 2:00 mark.

Wife bought me a GoPro for Valentine's Day. Adhered the mounts yesterday. Unfortunately today was blown out.

Maybe video of tomorrow's dawn patrol coming to a forum near you.

Thanks.  I guess because of the angle of the sun I didn't see that board when it happened, only after when editing.  I hope that in that situation I will always be moving faster than a flying board and outrun it  :)

I look forward to your video.

Technique / Re: Dropping down in length ?
« on: February 25, 2016, 01:55:24 PM »
Hi,

Plus one for staggered stance.  On my 8'8" I find I really need to be aware of my distance from the wave and to remember how many paddle strokes on one side it takes for the board to turn 90 degrees, sometimes just sitting there and not paddling is the best option for keeping the board pointed in the direction I want and then at the last second give 2-3 strong strokes while switching to a wide surf stance.  And sometimes even paddling in the "wrong" direction to get the board pointed in the "wrong" direction and then as I feel the wave approaching switch hands and paddle hard the way I want to go and if I time it right everything lines up...

SUP General / Re: what if this happened to your break?

Interesting and funny thread, great stuff!

For myself I find I am much happier when I stop looking for the problem "out there" and focus on changing myself for the better, do the best I can to clean up myself and the planet and try not to get pulled into the drama of what others are doing.

My 2 cents worth of understanding is that all beings on this planet are hard wired natural born litterers.  The survival of our planet is dependent upon us discarding our grown or born "trash" so the animal scavengers and microorganisms can eat it and dispose of it in a sustainable way, and it's been this way for billions of years.  The problem started when we became disconnected from nature and saw the earth as stuff or a commodity.

Sessions / Elevated Board Cam 3.0 Video - Stoked!
« on: February 25, 2016, 01:04:20 PM »
Working on refining a quick release system for this board mounted pole cam I decided that trying to reattach it while caught inside is less desirable than having it firmly attached.  So I reinforced the pole and added some attachment points.  This pole has been repaired several times and is heavier than it needs to be and at the same time the weight wasn't noticeable while surfing.  It felt great and I had a super fun session and overall I'm stoked!  Next I want to lighten the weight and then maybe try building another out of wood or plants...

I hope you enjoy:

Great thread, thanks for posting!

I have always and probably always will love dawn patrol.  Seems like I am not the only as it's more crowded these days and then often empties around 830.  I still love it, it's magical to have a long fun session and be done by 9am and still have a whole day open, and sunrise on glass water is so beautiful.

I had this dawn patrol session yesterday, I even had some anti-sup drama for a few minutes and it was easily washed away by good waves on a phenomenal morning.  :)
