Foil SUP / How we setup our Foil Bungee with a hand winch and quick release

Added a hand crank winch and a quick release to our bungee towing/pulling/launching system. Had a good time lots of pulls. Really interesting to see someone 160lbs. go and then someone 200lbs. on an identical setup. Actually convinced me to buy another bigger wing.

We did 3 days at a reservoir in Truckee and left the buoy, anchor, and bungee in the water overnight. Figuring it's Tahoe and crime is really low. On the 4th day the bungee was gone, paddled all over the lake looking for it and no clue what happened to it. It was fun while we had it.

Gear Talk / Soloshot 3 - Setup for 100% success & How I lock it & Multiple tags

Hi,

So after much frustration and disappointed I figured out how to get my Soloshot 3 working every time. Seriously I was lucky to get 1 out 4 where any of my rides were captured, and now I have a couple dozen sessions and counting where ALL of my rides have been captured. Also took me a couple tries to get the multiple tags working and now it's all good - this is a rad feature - going out with buddies and having the SS3 record all of us - way cool!

I hope this helps! Creek I hope you try this, I want to see your SS3 working everytime and see your ripping footage!

Gear Talk / GoPro Fusion as a paddle cam??? Test Video

99% of the time I use a paddle cam I am disappointed and then don't use one again for a long time.

A motorized gimbal might work if they figure out the waterproofing and get the weight and size down.

I have been confused as to what the fuss is about 360 cameras. Then it registered that I can take a patch from the 360 view and make a regular HD video:

Thoughts? Is this view watchable? Better than the usual paddle cam shot?

Sessions / Would you paddle out? Barreling beach break

So I pull up the beach and a see a rare sight: Non stop barrels!

The setup: a handful of peaks are barreling and the rest of the beach is closing out with no one out. Majority prone short boarders and 1 or 2 longboards. I drove the length of the beach several times and no SUPs in sight. The good peaks have lots of folks scattered all over the lineup and impact zone, pretty crowded for midday weekday.

I was debating a plan/strategy when I was called home, so I did NOT get to surf. My concern was how to navigate the waves and crowd without getting hurt or hurting someone else. Next morning waves were smaller with no barrels in sight.

Question: Would you paddle out on a SUP? What would your plan/strategy be?

I turned on the surfline cam at Ocean Beach and there's a SUP surfer who does like 10 pop overs for a dry hair paddle out. Instead of going over the last set wave and resting he turns and makes a late drop, it closes out and instead of bailing he uses paddle to slow down and spins around for another dry hair paddle back out. Saw him catch another wave and do a nice snappy turn off the top. Really really rare for someone not to fall when paddling out at OB:

Wow I am stoked and amazed by the slow motion on this new Hero 6 camera. I have been wanting a good slo mo cam for a long time, excited to see what I can capture this season...

Curious where everyone else is on this or other cameras, or the upcoming sony rx0. Getting one? something else? happy with what you have or don't have?

Gear Talk / Surfing with a Waterproof Gimbal - Feiyu WG2

Tried the Feiyu WG3 waterproof gimbal this morning.

I really like what it can do for a paddle mounted cam, to me the paddle stroke is now much more watchable. I suspect with practice one can get more footage, save more shots that would otherwise be really hard to watch, and also improve framing.

I see lots of potential here.

Thoughts?
