Gear Talk / Re: Nose Rocker: Big Easy vs. Cruiser
« on: March 08, 2010, 04:48:06 PM »
The Big Easy (by my measuring have 3.125" LESS rocker than the Cruiser.

But if you have steep waves where you are at there are better boards for that application. The nose rocker is not going to be the main problem with either of these boards in steep waves.

Let's start at the top (Question wise)

1) Where are you surfing? (Probably other SUP ridders in your areawith ideas on what works)
2) How experienced are you on SUP? Surfboards?
3) How big are you (inches & pounds would be nice)

these are good starting point If you prefer you can PM me the info and you and I can figure this out...But isn't this type of question EXACTLY what this group is for?

I gotta say as a big guy I like the liveliers (less flexy) feel of the Epoxy version. I only ride it as a quad. Over 1 year old and going FAST!

Gear Talk / Re: 5 fins
« on: February 22, 2010, 08:04:35 PM »
On the South County Turtle the 5 fins add stability during the catching a wave They also lend a bit of drive off the bottom but Like Doug said we are all experimenting with fin configurations but the % fin is a good starting point

These boards ROCK!

SUP General / Re: SUP'r in the Olympics
« on: February 19, 2010, 06:15:03 PM »
OK, I know you guys have been thinking this

SUP'rs in the Olympics...Not a bad Idea if you think about it

Objectively determined winners (IOC is reluctant to add new subjectively judged event to the Olympics

Multi Faceted sport (racing, Whitewater, Frestyle, Waves)
Non weather/condition specific sport
Non Equipment intensive
Practiced world wide
Use already developed site (racing & Whitewater with paddling sports) The Wave & Freestyle could be done in a wave pool that can develope revenue after the games.

What it is missing
No International governing body
No National governing bodies either
(these obsticals can be over come)

So remember when they are in the Olympics Ol' JimK Thought (wrote it) first. Now all we need is the Money, Time, Contacts (not to mention tremendous political clout) to get it done...OK I'm out...but it was fun thinking about it>

Gear Talk / Re: Starboard Hero Feedback
« on: February 18, 2010, 01:58:05 PM »
I haven't seen one here on the EC (To Cold) There is a guy in Huntington Beach who I think could give you relevent feed back.

An alternative there in Cali to the Hero is the South County 8ft X 33" I've been really impressed with these boards...I tried top put a link in here but it won't work for me (operator incompetence)
Pop me a regular email and I'll give you the link karabaszJP@aol.com

Gear Talk / Re: Surfing/Fishing SUP What would you recommend?
« on: February 08, 2010, 01:23:33 PM »
I do alot of fishing (fresh & Saltwater) on SUP's (I think they have a forum here on that topic) but I would use a bigger board say a Starboard 12'6 Cruiser or if you can wait a bit Starboard will be coming out with a FISHING BOARD Rod holders and all.

LEASH? I NEVER GO OUT W/o one

Good luck

Gear Talk / Re: Anyone make a good longboard shaped 10'er?
« on: February 01, 2010, 01:17:24 PM »
I got the answer!
Fanatic Fly 10Ft X 30"  :o 2+1 setup comes in HRS (std Epoxy construction or in a WOOD construction. All around noserider. Well designed and impecably made. I would send a link to their site and a youtube of them in use but I can't figure out how in this forum's format :-[

Pop me an email and I'll send it all to you

« on: January 30, 2010, 02:59:27 PM »
SoCo Turtle is a bit more surf oriented than the 10Ft but it paddles nice for light touring and just playing around real versitile board

I LOVE MINE TOO!

Gear Talk / Re: Wich paddle ?
« on: January 30, 2010, 02:50:25 PM »
I'll cut to the chase here I've seen/used the ATX paddle it is MINIMAL LOW QUALITY Carbon (ie mostly fiberglass) but it in NO WAY performs like a Kialoa, Werner, C4 or any other top of the line carbon paddles available.

just so it is clear ATX is no different than old Wave Rod boards. Buyers beware!

Gear Talk / Re: C4 Carbon Kevlar Race XPR Paddle
« on: January 23, 2010, 10:04:17 AM »
I use this paddle in distance & river (not whitewater) paddling. Makes a HUGE difference (between a STD carbon paddle) First of all it feels lighter in your hands (even though mine is longer than my surf paddles) The XPR "slides into the water very smoothly and comes through straight & true. but he neat thing is the little zip it gives at the end of your stroke. Finally its recovery through the air is effortless.

Now only a couple of things it isn't good at
1) Forget any Surf application open water rollers fine but breaking waves are a no no.
2) You should be on a BIG board minimum 12Ft long to feel the added thrust

that is my 2 cents if you have any other questions for me feel free to contact me directly
