Gear Talk / Re: Coreban Perfomer or Icon usable in flat water?
« on: July 28, 2011, 12:12:33 AM »
Today I had the opportunity to ride the performer on flat water (no waves). I was impressed of the stability. I did paddle more then 1 km and did not fall off. That means, for me the board is perfect, because I will have a steep learning curve in rough water.

Concerning the bag: I'm not happy that I have to take off the side fins every time. Also I would prefer a bag which is padded a little bit. The Coreban Bags are so thin that the slightest contact with the ground will damage the board or bag.

I did send an email to Coreban. Waiting for reply.
Except the sidefins the bag fits perfect on all sides. No movement of the board in the bag possible.

Today I used the board the first time on the north sea. Chaotic waves, size up to 2 feet, made it difficult for me to stay on top. But the workout was great!

After 60 minutes my legs were excausted. ;-)
But I feel, that I'm learning fast. Flat water would be an easy job with the performer.
Afer gaining more experience I will become much better.

Another problem arised today:
Today I mounted additionally the two side fins. After mounting the side fins, I cannot properly use the boardbag again, because the openings for the side fins are not placed at the right spot!
Below 3 photos (sorry 2 are upside down; Iphone photos; if I turn them, they will be shown again upside down.  >:(), where you can see how I have to use the boardbag with the 3 fins attached. Not a good solution! (Info to the photos: Board nose is pressed into the bag as far as possible; mid fin comes out at the opening, but side fins cannot exit!)
Only way to use the boardbag would be to mount the sidefins after putting the board into the boardbag, but to remove the board I would have to detach again the sidefins…..not a good solution!

Gear Talk / Re: How to repair a Coreban Pure Board?
« on: July 26, 2011, 12:15:39 PM »
I was unlucky and dropped the board. My fault, but only the edge cracked a litte bit!
I sanded it down and the cracks is not further visible. Only the white coloured epoxy was damaged.

I bought a epoxy repair set, but the resulting colour is not full white, more a bit gray.
Could somebody tell me which white colour mix I should buy (maybe you can tell me a product name?).

Or which type of colour I could use to paint the repaired area?
Thanks

OK. The board is now repaired. My local surfshop did repair the cracked edge with a white epoxy colour mix. If you

take a closer look you can see it, but at a normal distance it looks like the rest of the board.
It's important to repair such cracks because if the crack continues to the EPS Foam inside, it will suck water!

I removed the black marks with a rag and acetone (Coreban answered fast on my help mail and suggested this). It took

some time but now all marks a vanished.

Thanks all for your help. I hope the board stays long time without further impacts. ;-)

Gear Talk / How to repair a Coreban Pure Board?
« on: July 16, 2011, 10:49:47 PM »
When I opened today the boardbag after Shipping I found 2 crackles (see photo), approximately each 3cm long and a lot gray markings on the rails (no scratches).
I assume that I can remove the markings very easy, but how?
Concerning the 2 crackles: I will not send the board back. What should I do? Is there now water leaking to the inside or is this only a optical problem? How to decide which repair is best?
How can I repair this? (paint some colour/epoxy fluid on?)
Thanks

OK. The story continues:
I tried desperately to get an ICON in Pure, but there was only a blue CORE available. Blue is not my favorite coulour. After some phone calls, I finally decided to buy a Performer 9'6" in PURE.

The shop had to send it to me and the board missed me by 1 day.
My neighbor received the board while I was abroad. The packaging was damaged. Therefore he checked the inside, but did not open the boardbag.
This was a fault:

That means there is no difference in rail-material?
I'am right with 3lbs weight difference?

OK, everything is pointing on the Icon, if I don't get a Rocket. As this is the case, I will buy an Icon. Thanks a lot everybody for the good help. After a while I will report how I'm satisfied with the board.
Pure or Core? What would you suggest? (my plan is core, if I find a nice colour)
As far I know Core is 3 lbs heavier then Pure but can stand more impacts, is more durable, if it comes in contact with stones at the beach...

Ok, my problem is that I cannot try a lot of boards because I'm not living at the ocean (middle of germany). The other problem is that in germany there are not a lot SUPs available; and nearly no Coreban Boards. There is no big SUP market! :(
That means I have to buy a board which "most probably" suits me. I know maybe it's not perfect for me.

Yes I ruled out Cruiser and Alpha Race. Too big.

When the performer is too corky, then the fusion would never work. ???

Not at the moment. I thought that Coreban rules. ;)
I have to find an allround board which I can use for everything because in Europe you don't have always nice waves, sometimes it's pretty flat if there is no wind.
If it's windy I will go kiteboarding. :)

For me SUP-Paddling is only for fitness and fun.
That means if it's possible to paddle 5 miles with the performer then I think this would be a good choice, because my main wish is to ride waves with it. Paddling around locally is only the second choice if there are no waves available. Paddling 5 miles with the performer could add more fitness because it's more difficult?
What is the weight of Russell?

my weight 78kg, good fitneess level
windsurfing, surfing, kiteboarding experience

my original plan was to buy a Coreban Rocket 10' 6", but there is no Rocket available in Europe.
Now I could buy an Icon or Performer. Both are nice boards as far I read in the forums, if you use them in waves.

How perform these boards in flat water (we don't have always waves available!). Is it possible to just paddle around or will I fall off very often in choppy water?
Thanks
