Beaches are no longer free and opened in a lot of places in Europe! You will get fined.
Too many people were still going out during the confinement. Now they are closed.
Look at what has happened in other countries and the doctors begging people to stay home. The hospitals cant keep up in the hard hit areas. The army are now flying patients out of the hard hit areas too other hospitals or emergency army hospitals they are setting up away from the bad areas.
This is not media hype etc anymore. Be sensible about this .

Tarquin, this is very good info from those harder hit and perhaps only days, a week, or two weeks ahead of us. I'm reconsidering my previous post now given others reports of people crowding to our beaches (to get outside into the sun). Perhaps I'll only go to my secret spots now, that are super low density. Those of us who are still working under these conditions are under an incredible amount of stress, and for me de-stressing is not sitting in the house watching Netflix.

If you have yet seen this YouTube video, it is a really good explanation related to the mathematics of the problem we're all facing. I pray that the measures being put in place now will break the exponential growth curve.

California is under full lockdown. Stay in your house except groceries and emergencies.

Unless you live outside, then feel free to roam.

As one of those required to work every day under the Essential Critical Infrastructure, Defense Industrial Base Sector exception, nobody will stop me from going to my local beaches for ocean therapy!

Of course, I will continue to do my part to maintain a 6' radius social distancing bubble between myself, other humans, and dolphins.

Love my 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan! Looks like this model has stayed essentially the same over the past few years. In my 2013, the front passenger seat folds back below flat, allowing me to put one or two 10' SUP Boards fully inside and below the passenger airbag.   The Stow 'n' Go seating for middle and back row is excellent, as is the OEM stowable roof rack.  Perfect surfing van and a great step up from my 2002 Town and Country, which I retired after 273K miles.

Any veterans here from the old Usenet News group rec.windsurfing?

"wreckdot" was an early internet bulletin board for windsurfing enthusiasts...it was an old-fashioned version of this "modern" forum version catering to Stand Up Paddle enthusiasts.  I recall Wardog's avid participation in that forum, and his promotion / ambassadorship of windsurfing, which of course we all loved. Manytimes I didn't agree with his positions on a variety of subjects, however, I did respect his unfettered approach to forum participation, and his dedication and passion for the sport of windsurfing.

His passion for windsurfing certainly carried over to his very early embrace of SUP. I regularly followed his SUPSports.com web blog to get the latest updates on developments of our new watersport. His stoke helped breed my own resurgence of enjoying surfing more than windsurfing - in the form of a SUP Surf Board and a paddle.

I wish the best for Wardog and his spouse...I trust they now will both get to spend a lot more time on the water, enjoying the fruits of their labor, helping others to get more stoke in their lives. THANKS Wardog, for the dedication of your livelihood to two of my own personal passions - Windsurfing and SUP Surfing! I hope to see you on the water sometime soon, when I myself can retire to a daily schedule of showing up at my favorite surf breaks instead of a workplace.

Another good reason to buy reputable brand names...and pay a premium price for higher quality products with excellent customer service.

There are few companies / vendors who stand behind their product like this. Let's give our StandUp Zoner business to those who do!

It's been very cool to see this Board evolve over the past few years, and see how many people are getting stoked on hydrofoiling...and watching wind surfing make a comeback as wing surfing! Lots of new stoke.

Roberto Ricci Designs has another option in this category...I'm currently comparing the Naish Hover Crossover vs. Fanatic Sky SUP WS vs. RRD H-Flight Windsurf/SUP...the RRD has multiple foil finbox options, the Naish Crossover and Fanatic Sky SUP WS are limited.

Nice looking board and the tuttle in back setup seems to make sense. How much $?

I got a good closeout deal on last year's model from the good folks at Isthmus Sailboards / Paddleboard Specialists: https://isthmussailboards.com

That photo gives me total recall from my last trip to Maui...a fellow SUP surfer called out what appeared to be a very large Tiger in a Kanaha Beach Park cresting outside set wave...looked much like that picture, but farther out. Even though it was 100+ yards away, a couple of us decided it was a good time to come off the water. However, like Pono says - they are still there, whether we see them or not!

Hi,
I am looking for a foil SUP to go with a duotone 5m foil wing and an 84cm sling wing foil I bought. I am 6'2', 205 pounds. I have no foiling experience, just 10 years of SUP experience. I would like to start with wingfoiling before venturing into the surf.

After speaking to a few knowledgable people about foiling, it sounds like I should buy a longer (7'6"+) and higher volume (160+) board to shorten the learning curve. Besides the Jimmy Lewis Flying V (7'11" 180L), what other boards fit this spec and have a plate mount for the foil?

I am a 250+ lb XXL heavyweight windsurfer/SUP surfer who is also just getting into the foil game here in light wind San Diego.  I opted to go with the RRD Hi-Flight Windsurf/SUP Foilboard, a 7'10" crossover that will enable me to windsurf/foil, wingsurf/foil, and SUPSurf/Foil.  It has two US box slots for foil plate, and a Tuttle box for windsurf foiling. Its 150L of volume makes it plenty easy for even an XXL to paddle or slog.

The JL Flying V looks great also...JL boards are hard to beat!

I'm a big fan of ProTeck Fins ("Performance" Model), the design for safety which has flexible leading and trailing edges - like a dolphin, they maneuver very well!

I've retrofitted all my SUS boards with them:

(1) Safety - avoid nasty fin cuts on your head and body
(2) Safety - avoid nicks and cuts on your leash which can lead to leash failure when you need it the most
(3) Performance - perhaps not the highest performance available, but better than most OEM fins IMHO

I have them on my Fanatic AllWave 9'10' - they work  great!

Search for ProTeck Fins on Amazon, or buy direct from Surfco Hawaii

Sean Poynter provides a good tip on how to thread your leash string to board and leash, to increase ultimate tensile strength.

Linter,

I've heard Marty Schneider talk on a local San Diego financial radio show, and was impressed with his knowledge. He is a CFP.  Check out his website here: http://www.theretirementprofessor.com
https://theanswersandiego.com/content/radio-shows/the-word-on-wealth-with-marty-schneider

I've never used his services, however - just passing along one possibility for you to consider.

Good luck with your move to San Diego. Although it is definitely a High Cost of Living Area, there are many amenities here that can't be beat elsewhere.  San Diego Bay, Mission Bay, and miles of beaches along the Pacific Coast are the reasons I call San Diego Home!
