General Discussion / Re: NEW to all of it

I believe you get what you pay for, buy nice or buy twice, These guys have always put out a very good product for a fair price.

Love all my Hippo-Sticks, AL 8.0 longer for touring, Tripple G for racing which is shorter, and my Blur for sup surfing. The qb I won its a uv 88 and Im not a fan, although I do like the shaft, it has a texture to it that is great for slippery hands.

General Discussion / Paddle Grip

I know this has prolly been discussed several times, BUT, what are you guys using for a better grip on your paddles? Im using surf wax but man that stuff really smears and clumps up fast.

For me, ocean paddling has a completely different feel than non-ocean paddling, even when its nice and smooth. I don't know what it is, but even if I've been paddling off ocean pretty regularly, and then I go back on the ocean it always takes me a good 15 minutes to get my legs under me, relax, and feel comfortable. Plus I resign myself to the fact that I'm probably gonna fall off at least once.

Yup I hear you brother, its a total different feeling coming out of the flat stuff in the harbor

You're getting pretty confortable out in the ocean I see. Great group to paddle with.

I still have a ways to go, I was very sore maybe because of tensing up so much. People around me seemed very comfortable I was like holding on for dear life ;). It was pretty glassy and definitely some swell that made me work to stay upright. You should go out with us, its a great group.

Twenty of us out of Dana Point doing some open ocean training, red buoy to green buoy and back to the harbor x 3

Call Infinity, they use to have a ventral made by mark Stavron, not sure if the still have them or not. You could always ask Mark to make you one at Stavron fins

I swore off dugouts forever back at the dawn of history with the Starboard K15. It was stupid fast, but getting back into it was several minutes worthy of a three stooges video and a fine set of rib bruises. You don't have to fall on the rail to get bruised, crawling back in will do all you need.

A few years later I forgot the experience and bought a semi-dugout starboard 14 from Dan Gavere (River). A few downwinders and a lot of wallowing around getting back on the thing reminded me of my vow and I sold it cheaply

But that's some nice workmanship.

LOL im glad I read this, thats exactly what I was worried about, thanks for the laughs and honest opinion, still not 100% sure but its nice to have have choices.

Got my eye on a 2020 blackfish, 14x24.5 dugout. The only thing that scares me on the dugout is beach starts when racing, those rails look like they can break a rib or two......meanwhile ...........DROOLING ;)

Give Dave a call he will answer all questions, since he's the designer he will have all your answers, BTW love my blackfish, I do have a ventral but never use it, imo I really couldn't tell a differance. Mines a 2018 14x27 getting ready to sell for possible a 2020 blackfish 14x24.5 dugout.
