Wind Powered / Mistral trademarks the word WindSUP
« on: June 18, 2018, 04:10:32 PM »
Mistral has trademarked the word WindSUP - and has sent out cease and desist letters to all manufacturers about it.

Looks like it will now be known as SUP Windsurfing (but isn't "Windsurfing" also trademarked?) - - so what is it now?
SUP Sailboarding?
Sailing a SUP?

Strange move on Mistral's part.

The "fight" over who governs SUP, and where it is headed, is very similar as to what happened to snowboarding.
Snowboarding was the "new kid" on the hill, and no one cared about it in the early days.  The ski industry eventually figured out that they could make money off of snowboarding, so they "took it over".  FIS (ski federation) eventually wrestled away the sanctioning rights to events and took snowboarding to the Olympics - and killed the soul of the sport in the process.

I hope SUP never gets to the Olympics!

Wow.
He certainly know how to read the currents and weather to be able to plot his course so accurately.
Good for him.

Really?

"When you lead from the front and push the boundaries you are always walking a fine line. Sadly today we have teetered onto the wrong side of that line and have closed our doors."

Lead from the front?
What a bunch of scam artists.
Sorry for those that backed this pile of crap.

If you haven't driven a (*rally)car on a (*Stage) racetrack at the true edge of control, then you suck at driving. I don't know any good race car drivers that drive dangerously on the street.

Truth. (modified a bit for my personal experience)  :)

Whether you personally believe in leash use or not - as an industry member it is almost your duty to promote the safety aspect of the sport at all times.

Nuttin'. I kind of hate gifts. They tend to be random stuff that you can never get rid of. I'm in the simplification stage of life. I really had to dig to think of something Diane could give me for my birthday. I am looking forward to the Inspire 2 though. And I just bought a new TuffSew sewing machine for building some prototype stuff. Not sure how that fits in with the simplification scheme. Now I'm going to have to get some strong reading glasses--threads are damned hard to see.

See what I mean--one thing leads to another. Now I'm going to have three strengths of reading glasses and I'll be searching for the right pair constantly.

So you would say no to a DJi Mavic?    :)

Some of these drowning victims have been fit, younger athletes and just relatively fit people of all ages, so the fatties deserve a break in this conversation :) The underlying causes are generally very similar with almost all of the deaths, which should be the primary focus.

I am only saying that the "image" of SUP is that it is easy - as the images show.  Do the Google image search I suggested and see for your self.

I think one of the biggest problems to "newbies" is that the sport is perceived as "easy".
Do a google image search of Stand Up Paddling (go do it . . . I'll wait).

All you see are image after image of "healthy / fit" people in bikinis and board shorts in flat / tropical / warm water settings.
it is these images that make all beginners "think" that the sport is easy.
Just my 2¢

Since I live in the middle of northern Canada - substitute the word snowboarding for surfing for me.

I just lock this to my front grill.
Works great.

Yup - This - lock it to my trailer hitch.  Large enough for several keys.
Is designed as a lock box for real estate agents - on front door of house.

Deck pads are not that hard to remove - certainly not $100. hard.
A hair dryer and a scraper and you can take it off yourself.
Putting a new one on is just peal and stick.

Zane would be my pick.

It's a great board in almost all conditions.  Which is what it was designed for.
I still have a 12'6" and a 14' of it and will keep them both forever.
(helps that my name is on the bottom).

Enjoy.
