Gear Talk / Re: who is riding a blue planet board

Sorry Night Wing, have been busy. In Australia we tend to have quite messy surf, wind and swell not groomed like a Maliko run, so with lighter winds to 20kts I prefer a thinner board hence waiting for the 26". I'm 80kg.  After that I'm trialling a Blue Planet unlimited special order 17'6x25.5" to assist in hopefully getting these boards on the market should Robert desire. I'm just an ordinary paddler and not sponsored in any way too. Most good racers here use the Ace which is still an incredible board. We also have a SI C 14' V2 that my wife occasionally uses, I still prefer the Blue Planet Bumprider being a little lighter. Hope that helps.

I have a 14'x28" Bumprider here in Australia, great board, good weight and price, integrated handle one of the best in the market, soft deck pad with superb construction too. In the same league as the 14' SIC but cheaper. Am waiting on the 26" version of the Bumprider now.

I've found if I cut strips of "Fixomull" tape on the same fingers that you blister on, it stays on for hours and fixes the problem. No sticky residue on the paddle or fingers either.
The reality is when I try paddle too hard and not relax my lower hand grip, that's when I blister up.

Re sanding carbon - apply a liberal dose of talcum ( baby) powder on any areas of skin that could get dust on. Works a treat to stop itching.

I have the 8'10 Speed and a DeeP Minion 7'8, both at 130litres, being 6' and 80kg. The Speed is a much easier board, paddles well in the flat, stable for me to 15kts and choppy water, with foot position much less critical than my custom Deep - made in Australia. The Speed is such a great board.

Thanks all for the advice. Now who wants to guide us on the maiden Maliko run? - all experienced downwinders paddlers.

Would appreciate any local advice on areas where to stay for the week prior to and the Olukai race in late April 2016. There's a group of at least 6 from the Sunshine Coast Australia coming to do the race. Think we have a provisional booking at a hotel near the harbour - is this a good option. Appreciate any advice, thanks.

SUP General / Re: Velocitek Makai - SUP Specific GPS
« on: December 12, 2015, 03:16:38 AM »
I bought a Makai after my Speedpuck died and enjoy for the simple ease of seeing my speed easily without glasses and in all conditions. I can tell if my speed on the left or right drops so can work on technique to correct this. The elapsed distance and time are useful. The mounts are not as good as I hoped, so don't use them, rather use the 3M heavy duty plastic Velcro tape to attach to different boards quickly.
I have attached a lease to tie to the board as the unit does not float and can be knocked off the supplied mount when changing sides paddling.
If I need data I take my Garmin 910 watch.

Ke Nalu / Re: Ke Nalu's New Konihi
« on: June 25, 2014, 03:55:48 AM »
Have been a keen supporter of Ke Nalu paddles here in Australia, having bought the Wiki, Maliko and Molokai paddles when first released.  I like the Wiki for surfing, use the Maliko for racing being over 50 and more power type paddling, the Molokai is too big for me, so will cut down to use as an OC1 paddle.
I recently bought the Ho'oloa 95 paddle head and prefer that to my Maliko being the same power but allowing increased cadence.  However i borrowed the new Konihi 84 and was blown away by it's lightness compared to mine.  At first it feels like you're not going any faster, but was doing the same speed as before with a lot less effort.  Then even I could increase the cadence and get a speed increase that I haven't been able to up to now with such minimal effort. What's great with Ke Nalu is the ability to just buy a paddle head such as the Konihi for relatively minimal cost and upgrade your gear.
Can't wait to get mine in the next week or so when they arrive here.......
