Been a while since I've been in the Zone but coming in with a few racers from Cleveland...yup. 1 includes an adaptive paddler so we're excited to get him and Anthony Vela together. Might have a rental in Capistrano. Will keep an eye out for a happening. Doing the Tech and the 6 on a 14'.

Bartender says, "Get out. We don't need your types in here".

And take those dingbats with you!

SUP General / Re: Most boring SUP The Mag cover ever?
« on: September 10, 2014, 07:50:01 PM »
I hope this illustrates our passion (and 12 hours of cover picking/cropping, gabbing with Servais about how he actually DELETED this shot by accident then found a way to resurrect it, classic story!)... on stands Sept. 23rd: Full Preview of New Issue is at:http://standupjournal.com/2014-fall-issue-standup-journal

Clay, love your mag. I subscribe. But, since we are talking design I have to say that I don't understand why your great shots don't go full cover. Too much of a Surfer's Journal mimic. Although their typography is subtle and sophisticated. Your typography on the cover and throughout is quite frustrating from the legibility factor in body copy to the mish mosh of typefaces. Your photos are beautiful, inspiring and take us all to places we wish we were.... the best in the biz. Typography is about finesse and legibility when the reader needs to immerse into the story to headlines and callouts that need to communicate tone, concept and emotion of the story. I've always wanted to reach out to you over the years but I didn't want to step on toes. I know how sensitive "us" creative types are but you need an evolution. I'd love to talk about any simple way I can offer experience in the biz.

SUP General / Happy Ending! Stolen boards recovered
« on: June 18, 2014, 03:03:54 PM »
STOLEN BOARDS RECOVERED ONE YEAR LATER!
Here's the story. Almost exactly one year ago at Third Coast's Sweetwater SUP Challenge in St. Joesph's, Michigan we had 4 paddle boards (2 race and 2 surf) + 2 paddles stolen from our trailer overnight from a very nice hotel parking lot. Huge bummer to say the least especially since we woke up to find the boards gone on Father's Day.

Fast forward almost a 363 days… So a fellow racer, Chris Matulis from St. Joseph, MI friended me on Facebook 4 days before this year's race. He sent a link to a Craig's List posting in Grand Haven with images of all 4 of our boards! I was in shock. Shocked to see all of our boards together and shocked to realize how dumb criminals really are.

I contacted the officer that we dealt with last year and they went undercover as a buyer last Friday and met the guy. With the photo evidence we had supplied them of repaired dings, stickers, unique markings, etc. they arrested him on the spot and he gave a full confession. Crazy, crazy, crazy. Boards are a little dinged up but we get to see them this weekend and hopefully return shortly to bring them home in a week or so.

Great pics and stories. One of the more entertains posts I've seen in a while. (Although there is a lot of competition in here for "entertainment"!)

The sock comment! Holy crap!

The Coreban inflatables had "nubsters" a tri-fin setup of about 3" fins. Helped a bit. The soft top had no fins.

Lake Erie is frozen. The Arctic Vortex has a stranglehold on us so when not drinking double IPAs we just try to fill the void with some hill SUPing on inflatables and soft tops... unsuccessfully but had a blast. The two hill hold downs were gnarly.

CRT,

Surf sup rental tips in Nosara these days? Also have family with us so regular tour boards or outing spots near bays, or protected areas, reefs, wildlife, etc.

SUP General / So it's really weird seeing me on this site ^^
« on: November 05, 2013, 07:45:54 PM »
The BIC SUP advertisement banner on this site has my pic slapped all over the site from last year's Paddle Royal. Me in brown, orange, blue striped shorts. Ed Pierce is to my right.

It's just odd coming to the Zone and feeling like a somebody, ha!  8) :-[

Btw, Jamie Torres' Paddle Royal is a fantastic, well run race experience. Paddling around Old San Juan is something you'll keep with you for a long time. Will miss this year's race as I am taking the family to Nosara this year in late December.

Starting this thread up again instead of starting a new one. Will be in Playa Grande for 2 days Dec 26-27 and then Nosara Dec 28- Jan 6. Love meeting Zoners on trips. Just checking to see who might be making the trip back to CR.

Midwest / Re: Stolen SUPs - Sweetwater SUP Challenge

The photos I posted are just to show the make and model except the Nalu in the photo with my kids from the race. You can also see the deck of the F-One.

The Coreban has a white oval Nalu SUP & Surf destination sticker just below the Coreban logo on the deck. It also has a green and white State of Ohio Wartercraft hull ID sticker on the right rail about 2 feet from the nose. These, I would assume will be removed but might leave a trace.

The Pau Hana alos had a State of Ohio Watercraft ID on the right rail.

The F-One and Nalu were pretty much brand new with no other uniques markers, not even any dings!

Had a good time at the race until we woke up Sunday morning to find that we had 4 boards and 2 paddles stolen off our trailer at The Boulevard Inn in St., Joseph. Here is a pic of the boards. Please keep an eye out for them in your area. We traveled up from Cleveland for the race. Here is a pic of the boards:

• Yellow Nalu 10' - all yellow on bottom with teal "N" logo.
• 9' F-One Manawa - red, black and wood veneer
• 12'6" Coreban Vision Race - white, wood veneer + red, silver and black board bag
• 12'6" Pau Hana Cross fit - Lime green, black & white
• Pau Hana Paddle
• Starboard paddle
