Southwest has made it even easier to fly out on a whim now (Yay)

The folks at Blue Planet are terrific, we store our boards there and they drop them off at the Imperial In the board storage garage when we arrive and pick them up at the end of our stay. Can't say enough about their service and aloha. Great ambassadors for surf and Hawai'i

Back in Lake Arrowhead now and buried with work. Go ahead and sell it if you have another buyer, if it's still available when I'm able to get down in your area, I'll send a message.

Yes, but back in home now. How is best to do this?

Great race and fantastic way to finish.

Mahalo for all the kind words.
Dave can dial in the graphics into his custom boards, just come up with a concept and he and the Kings team will make it happen. So easy to work with.
Iʻve got more ideas... just have to convince my significantly better half that She needs a custom.

Worked with Dave Daum to create the best board for me and my abused body (broken back, blown ACL & some neurological issues.) I canʻt walk around on a board anymore so itʻs basically paddle in step back and go. Iʻm 62, 6ʻ1" 255lbs (in Hawaii itʻs called "powerfully built" here itʻs "Husky".)  Dave heard me and created this wonderful board 9ʻ9" x 35" x 4.5" 185L stepped rails. It works beautifully. The image in the nose is Duke at SanO in the 40s itʻs printed onto 1oz matte and laminated into the board.  Hope you enjoy it. See you out at Dog Patch and Pink Poles.
Surf with Aloha

SUP General / Re: San Onofre - Move the "OK" Signs Update
« on: December 19, 2016, 07:46:00 PM »
Aloha Everyone,

Here is a copy of the letter Steve Boehne has sent out regarding the OK sign . Posted with permission.

hi Todd Lewis and Richard Hayden,

I know there is a bit of a controversy over the OK sign / division point between the paddle surfers and regular surfers.  I've been surfing San O. since 1960.  For years, my wife and I tandem surfed "old mans",  now we mostly do SUP surfing and tandem occasionally.   I'd like now to write a friendly letter with my opinions.  I realize that this letter may be a bit long, but I think some things need to be said.

I have been part of the culture and long boarding traditions at San O. for decades and that is why I am  actually for the OK sign - division even though the segregation now puts me "to the back of the bus" in the much lower quality waves at dog patch.  In fact, back in the 60's and 70's no one ever surfed at "dog patch".  Only people with dogs parked down there to get away from everyone else.

I have been wave ski surfing south of the OK sign since 1989 or '90 when it was first put up.  I had wave ski surfed at Old mans for years before that with never a problem, but since that time, down at dog patch the wave ski and now the SUP community has grown exponentially.  Everything was fine until last year when high tide storm surf washed away our parking down there and the sand filled in the reef.  The surf has dramatically changed,  I would say that 60% of the time waves don't even break south of the dog patch grass shack any more.  Surfing south of the OK sign is physically impossible with out waves.

Now, of course the paddle surfers must park up into the old man's parking area.  Generally, the rangers have been very tolerant and in most cases, look the other way when we surf up to the "Pink volley ball pole".  The problem is that the OK sign has become irrelevant and no longer makes any sense in the old location.  With out a clear division line, the paddle surfers on one hand don't really know where the stopping point is and the belly paddlers are pissed because they have lost some territory.  There is a natural division in the reefs and waves between old mans reef and the dog patch reef that affords a perfect new division point at the pink pole.
If you at the state park would just move the OK sign from where it is (and doesn't work) to the pink pole, there would no longer be the confusion and confrontations in the water between the two groups.

I was in the San Onofre surf club for 30 years until it no longer represented my surfing preferences.  The club does a nice job interfacing with the state park, but it really does not represent even the majority of people that use the park much less the (once regular surfers- now paddle surfers) who feel that they too have a right to a minimum quality of surf and parking accommodations.

Please, we need you to reduce the confrontations;  move the OK sign to the pink pole.

To digress a little: I saw a reference to sup's as vessels in one of the State Park's responses.  I would just like to point out that this poor designation was initiated  the by a very strong, life preserver manufacturers lobby that in my opinion dubiously influence the Coast Guard to adapted this vessel designation in order to sell thousands of life jackets.   Please keep in mind that it specifically does not apply "in the surf zone".  Also, please consider this;  If I want, I can swim or paddle on a surf board any where, down any channel in the Dana Point harbor or all the way to Catalina, but if I stand on that surf board and use a paddle, i am now on a vessel and must bring a life jacket. Now how ridiculous it that?  Please, lets not have this kind of attitude at San Onofre.

very respectfully,

Steve Boehne, Infinity Surfboard Co.

SUP General / San Onofre - Move the "OK" Signs Update
« on: November 30, 2016, 07:05:56 PM »
Aloha Everybody:

An update

The response from the SanO Surfing Club;  they basically said that Rich Haydon, South Sector Superintendent, said the State’s position has not changed, nor has their opinion changed on any modification to the hand held paddle boundary.

The Club says that they do not have the authority to define that boundary and/or relocate the OK signs.

It would be so much easier for the Lifeguards if the boundary was moved … Lifeguards could concentrate on their primary jobs instead of trying to chase the SUP’s and waveski’s from in front of the pink poles.

The State needs to hear from as many SUPs and Waveskis as possible – so please pass this on.

Please forward this e-mail to fellow SUPs and Waveskis, and print it out and pass it on, or call / text your SUP friends and pass it on.

Please take the time to call or write the following to move the OK Signs:

Richard M. Haydon, South Sector Superintendent, Orange Coast District
(939) 492-0802
California State Beach Lifeguards / Park Rangers at San Onofre Surf Beach
3030 Avenida Del Presidente
San Clemente, CA  92672

Todd Lewis, Orange Coast District Superintendent
(949) 494-0802
California State Beach Lifeguards / Park Rangers at San Onofre Surf Beach
PO Box 942896
Sacramento, CA  94296-0001

 San Onofre Surfing Club,
Matt Brady mattbradyaia@yahoo.com>, and
Jim Wynne <jim@johnston-pacific.com>
PO Box  324,
San Clemente, CA   92674

People have taken a lot of time and effort on behalf of the larger community of SanO SUPs / Waveskis … now we need YOU to take your time to help!

The OK signs need to be moved before summer, when the lifeguards will be enforcing them.

Mahalo for getting involved
