Foil SUP / Re: Mounting my Takuma foil
« on: July 04, 2017, 04:29:04 PM »
Newps, thanks great questions for Takuma. Hope they get back to me soon.

Your weight comment surprised me. Not sure where your data came from. I just shipped the foil from mainland US to Maui and packaged, they charged me for 18lbs.
So I just weighed in on the bathroom scale 11.6 lbs. Questionable I know but with the postal scale weight it looks about right.
Less than 12 lbs not so bad.

I'm no fanboy (haven't even gotten it wet).

I am using Houston Kiteboarding Foilmount. Plenty of flat section for the mount.Board has some rocker but it is all up front.

That is so excellent! People are so clever, not to mention skilled. Love the safety gear.
I might add a board leash as that is some quick water.

Thanks Guys.
Sent questions to Takuma. No response yet (less than 24 hours). I'm hopeful they will answer.

And yes, it is a 24 inch mast.

Foil SUP / Mounting my Takuma foil

I know it's been discussed, but I'm still confused.
How do I determine the foil placement?
Mast below rear foot? Is that while riding or paddling?
Help! Once placed I have about 4-5" of adjustment.
Takuma foil arrived on Maui yesterday and I'm totally ready to get it wet.
Board is a 9'0" Naish Mana that I have ridden waves with for years.
The Pacific is about 200 feet away!

While you are not off the mark with your comment, I would expect someone with your experience might add to the conversation rather than flame. Just say'n

Okay, no, seriously, no. This is a total effort, low return thing no matter how you do it. Those goofy aqua skippers are three times more efficient than what Austin is doing. Dave is all fired up on the promise of this and ignoring the simple fact that this kid, who has spent his life in the water, who is at the peak of his physical condition, can just barely fucking do it. Anyone who sees this as the door opening to a world of foiling everywhere is on crack.

True story!

Supuk, would love some reports on the takuma.
I just picked one up, but will not get to try it till I get to Maui in late June. I am mounting it on a 9x Naish SUP.

Clay, thanks for sharing your experience and thoughts. And to others who are adding to this thread.
I am heading to Maui in June armed with a new foil which I will mount on my 9' Naish sup. Been riding small South Maui summer waves for years and this will be my first attempt to sup foil.
I am so stoked to try this!
Keep it up!

Foil SUP / Has anyone tried this?
« on: March 15, 2017, 10:20:16 AM »
This looks like a great idea for mounting on an existing SUP. I am considering it for my Naish 9'0 Mana. I would use a large low aspect Kiteboard foil.
I do wonder if the mount might cause delamination.
Any thoughts or comments.

Oops, time to update my profile!!!!
I am now living in New Mexico (let me know if you need a surf report - LOL). I am currently on Maui and will be traveling with my inflatable unless I wear it out on the island coral.
I think I'll be good - thanks for the offer. I will be in touch.
