Gear Talk / Any ECS Widebody reviews
« on: February 23, 2024, 09:08:08 AM »
Looking for any feedback or thoughts on the 8'10" ECS Widebody. I surf mostly in Va/NC and northern Fla and weigh 160. As I'm getting older, looking for something a little lighter to transport and carry than my 10' glass SUP -- thank you

Travel, Trips, Destinations / Any SUP surf rentals in Cocoa Beach, FL?
« on: January 30, 2023, 09:08:23 AM »
Will be driving through Cocoa Beach in March and wondering any place to rent a surf SUP for a day as I head further south for a family visit. My normal surf SUP is 10', so similar size would be nice.
Thanks!

General Discussion / 10' to 7'9" SUP?
« on: January 06, 2023, 06:12:11 AM »
How difficult would it be to go from a 10' to 7'9" SUP to surf on smaller east coast waves? I'm 5-6 160 and in the the early stages of looking for something I can travel to Fl better with. I now mostly surf in Va. Beach - I know it would be better to try before I buy, but was looking at a used 7'9" board near my son in Fla. Would mainly use in Jacksonville and Cocoa Beach on smaller thigh high waves - Thanks for any thoughts

Gear Talk / Recommendation for locking straps
« on: February 25, 2020, 01:27:33 PM »
Doing a camping trip to Florida with my SUP and was thinking about getting some locking straps to protect my SUP when not at the campground. I know nothing is theft-proof, but thought about using the locking straps to secure my SUP to my camper to secure it some. Anyone try the canulock or thule locking straps or have any other suggestions?

Thanks

Yep - Move to the Outer Banks or Wilmington. While you won't be in your daughter's backyard and that might be a good thing, I would think her and your son-in-law would love to have a "beach house" to go to! I'm 2 hours from Va. Beach, so I know I would love for my parents to have a house in Wilmington or OBX.

The family and I are already tossing around ideas for next summer's vacation. We've gone to Myrtle for the past 15 years and was thinking something else for next summer. Never been north of Maryland, so was thinking of trying somewhere in the Northeast. My 20 year son and 16 year old prone surf and I SUP surf. My wife does neither, but loves a good book and good glass of wine. Any suggestions of places we might look?- we also like hiking but not roughing it with the wife with us :) - Looking at spending around $200 a night if doable - live in Va., but totally unknown to anything north of Baltimore. Thanks

NaluSUP - That looks pretty cool. I have a big bag for my 10' surf SUP that I normally use, but that looks like a better option as 90% of the time I put my SUP in the back of my truck and would be nice to not put it in a bag that I got sand in. I'd never use it for airline travel, but any negatives you have seen so far.

Gear Talk / Glue suggestion for paddle
« on: June 13, 2017, 06:37:51 AM »
I snapped the shaft of my carbon fiber paddle (3/4 the way up) on a trip to CR back in March. I got a new paddle to SUS, but now ready to repair the old one - figured worse case, I could use it when flatwater fishing on my SUP or to give out as a loaner.

So I have cut off the rigged edges of the bottom and top pieces of the old shaft and I have an 6" carbon fiber tube that fits perfectly in the 2 pieces, so the question now, is what glue should I use to put them all together? Thanks and let me know if more information is needed.

FWIW - I ordered a Kenalu. I ordered the Wiki 84 with a Ergo T handle and a XTuf (s) shaft. I've been following this site and those paddles for a long time so pretty excited to finally be able to try one out this spring.

Gear Talk / Paddle suggestion for SUS with bad shoulders
« on: March 23, 2017, 06:45:02 AM »
On my recent trip to CR, my carbon fiber paddle shaft snapped in half. I have had it for 6 years and my guess is it got pressured dinged in the travel. Thank goodness for rentals! So back home now I'm in the market for a new paddle. I have had shoulder surgery on both shoulders, so wanted to ask for suggestions that might help keep pressure off the balls of my shoulders. Someone told me to maybe look at a smaller blade to help relive some of the pressure. I'm 50 years old, 5-7 and surf mostly in Virginia and OBX about a dozen times a year. Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions.
