What are the durable wing materials out there now. Just yesterday, my foil came down on the leading edge of my wing and put a 1/2 cut through the material. My bladder didn’t pop or bulge out so I could sail in. I don’t have sharp foils the edges are pretty dull, but just got my thinking that this contact shouldn’t have been too big a deal and shouldn’t have cut my leading edge.

Are there new materials out that can hand that kind of contact better. I knew Alula is light and stiff, is it also tougher to handle more contact?

That is my life, our best wind and waves are fall, winter, and spring and it’s usually rainy, snowy, and or cold!

4
I usually stop winging once the air temp goes below the upper 30’s, not because I am cold but because I don’t want to damage my wing.

Does anyone know or have experience with wings being damaged from getting iced up. I have mantis wings and I have iced it up once and I thought it effected the coating on the wing. So I usually stop once the wing is in danger of icing.

Can the wings handle that?

Unfortunately limited to the continental US. Definitely something to consider once I am done working.

Looking for the best winging spots to spend a couple months in. I need to be in east coast time or central time for work purposes. I have family in the Tampa and New Smyrna beach, fl. Have never seen anyone winging in New Smyrna Beach, anyone wing there? Tampa seems to have a decent amount of wingers. Doesn’t seem to have much in the wave department.

I bought a mantis 3.0 thinking I would hardly use it, but wanted it for big winds 25+, but I have already used it a ton. I use my 4.0 mantis gusting up to 20, if the gusts go bigger I go to my 3.0. But I size for gusts, I don’t like to ride over powered with wings flapping and all that jazz, as long as there are gusts above 15 I can get up with my 3.0. I am 75 kg my board is 75 Ltrs, and foil is 1150 surface area. I am in fresh water, with waves and swell.

The naish has that kick tail on it, if I used a shim part of the base plate would be hanging out in thin air.

9
Is that 12 just to small for the 1150. Would the 1150 over power the 12. Seems that the 14 FTS may be the best option.

FTL 20 and rs1150 work great. I usually use it from 13 knots to 25-30 knots, wind waves from 1 to head high. Control, speed, all really good.

I want to start jumping more and putting my back foot in the rear strap, everything feels really unstable because I have to put all my weight on my front foot. If a 14 or 12 FTL would produce less lift I could move the front straps back, which would balance the weight a bit more.

Hi All,
I am running the RS1150 with the FTL 20” and it works great, no complaints. I have a Naish s25 75lt board and I have to run my mast all the way back in the tracks and my front foot strap all the way in the front holes. I want to move my front straps back farther to make it more comfortable to use my back strap, which is all the way forward too. I am thinking that either a FTS 14” or FTS 12” would allow me to move the front strap back more. Anyone out there using the RS1150 with either the FTS 14 or 12? Is the lift reduced using a smaller Stab?

I just got the kokatat inferno mitts and have had them out 4 times in 40 or below temp, they are warm, I still get forearm cramping, and have to stop and shake them out, but it’s not to bad. They have started to wear already between the thumb and finger, so I am trying a modification of cementing in an old bicycle inner tube in that area add a bit more to stop the wear.

I did use hyperflex oven mitts last year and they were pretty good, they also were pretty much shot after a couple months, but they were cheap, so I didn’t mind. I can’t find my size now, so I went the much more expensive route of kokatat.

I keep going back an forth on wether or not to drop gofoil and go with another brand. I have the iwa, kia, and maliko and want to upgrade at some point in time. Everything I hear everyone is switching to Axis. Gofoil looks like they are coming out with a new foil the GT version and it looks like it has impressive glide and pumpability, but if Axis is so much better, may be I should make the switch.

So, I purchased the Fanatic Sky Wing 5'4", which is 95 its. I have had it out a couple times mostly in light wind, which is what I got it for. I can't say it really helps getting up on foil earlier than my Naish 75 ltr. I don't have a wind meter so it's hard to say what kind of wind I am out in, we do have a light house on the water, but the wind meter is on the top, so it may not be the most accurate, but it seems like the same kind of wind I would be getting up on, on the 75 ltr board. It also seems to have to be pumped differently than the 75 ltr board, it may be more of a push type pump, but I am still experimenting on that.

Up in the air the 75ltr board seems much easier for doing almost everything than the 95 ltr board. The 95 seems like there is so much deck and you kind of have to walk around it to find the sweet spot for each thing you are doing such as turning and pumping.

On the plus side for the 95 ltr board, when the wind drops it is definitely easier to stand on since it doesn't sink under my weight. It also seems to be much better balanced for my GoFoils, I can have much more balanced stance than on the 75 ltr where I have to have a fair amount of front foot pressure, but that is because the mast track, in my opinion on the naish is to far forward, so I can't move my foil far enough back.

At this point, I don't think my purchase really helped getting up in lighter wind. I am leaning now toward a bigger more powerful wing to generate enough speed to get the board up and out of the water would have been the better option.

I have the mantis 4.0 and really like it. However the fabric on the handles move, like rotate when you grip them, so you have to over grip causing forearm cramping. I am going to try to come up with a solution for that maybe taping them tighter on the handles?
