« on: April 17, 2012, 04:35:16 AM »
My traction pad is starting to come up near the handle. Any zone wisdom out there on the best way to reattach the pad? Epoxy? Thanks in advance.

Spend your hard earned money on a board that is slightly too small for you...

Your choices are to take the hit and sell it then reinvest, look like a kook because you have the permanent wobbles and like to swim OR shed those 10-15 lbs you have been meaning to for the last 5 years.

I'm shooting for 10 by the time I can get out of this full suit.

Coreban Icon 10' would be ideal for you.

Go for it. I loved my Icon. At your weight though you might be better of on a Fusion 9' though.

Gear Talk / Coreban Alpha 12'6" thoughts
« on: January 03, 2012, 06:20:45 AM »
I picked up a Coreban Alpha 12'6" in pure construction about a month ago and finally found a minute to write down some thoughts. My background is in surfing and paddle surfing and this is my first true flat water board. I am 6'4", 215 pounds with 20 years of surfing experience and have been paddling for about 3 years. I was looking for a good all around flat water cruiser that was capable of a downwind run and some recreational racing. I wanted to stay in the 12' range mainly for storage and transportation reasons.

I have had the alpha 12'6" out in the tidal salt marsh by my house on an exploratory cruise, on 3.5 mile timed flat water island circumnavigation and out in the ocean in waste high mushy surf. The board performed well on all occasions. Obviously the displacement hull race boards are going to be faster on flat water and surf inspired shapes are going to surf far better but for a flat water Swiss army knife type board the Alpha Race 12'6" hit the mark. I have not had it out on a downwind run yet but am looking forward to doing so since that is what the board was really designed for.

My first impressions of the board were that it was extemely stable and had a very nice glide. Turning took some getting used to considering I am used to riding surf shapes in the 10' range but after a few windy marsh paddles I was good to go. The pure construction is beautiful and the bag it came in was very impressive. The board surfed reasonably well considering what it was designed for. I plan to play around with some different fins. You would not want to ride this on any critical top to bottom waves but for soft mushy cruising type waves it can be fun. I was able to get in long before the waves were breaking and draw lines all the way to the beach.

I was looking for a flat water inspired board that could perform well in all aspects of stand up paddling and I found it in the alpha race 12'6". As mentioned previously there are better options out there for specialized  types of paddling but if you are looking for a beautiful board that can do it all, take a good look at this one.

I would take a good look at the alpha 12'6

If you are going to be on flat water 90% of the time this would be a great option.

I have surfed the alpha 12 in small mushy surf and had fun. It's not going to be as comfortable in the surf as the ez or cruiser but it is a much better flat water board. I think if you used a surf fin in the alpha it could be a fun mini wave surfer.

i wasn't expecting a fisherman...  ???

I had my first run in a few weeks back while surfing. Some crusty old longboarder started yelling at me for catching a peak that he was 30 yards away from being in position for. He then proceeded to tell me that "This is a surfboard line up and not an SUP line up" and that i should stop paddling the 1/2 mile stretch that i was patrolling... i obliged... and camped on him until he went in. The funny thing is that i go out of my way to make sure that im not a wave hog and always try to represent our sport positively... but with old farts on logs who cant surf in the first place repeatedly run their mouths my patience and kindness runs out.

I'm 215lbs and ride a Coreban Icon and love it. I ride it as a quad and find it feels and rides much shorter than the 10' length. That being said i am moving to a 9' Fusion soon. I love the Icon but feel as my skill level progresses so does my need for less volume and length. If at all possible, i would demo both and if the Fusion is stable enough go with that. Good luck.

Gear Talk / weight vs volume question
« on: September 02, 2011, 11:02:50 AM »
I am 6'4" 210 lbs and have been surfing for many years and paddling for 2. I am currently riding a 10 @ 162 liters and am looking for a 2nd shorter option... the board i have been eyeballing is 8'0 x 29 and 130 liters... would this be pushing it? and what type of stability (or lack of) could i expect? Thanks.

I'm 6'4" 215 and love my Coreban Icon. Definitely worth checking out... stable and very maneuverable. I have it set up as a quad with Future controllers.
