I love this one!. Even if it were to deliver equal or a bit less perfo compared to a MidAspect that reduced wingspan is going to turn so nice, and the increased safety to body and wing...wow!. The concept works for sure ( the Bruce Creations protos are proof) but getting the design optimized is going to need a revolutionary building method that allows easy tweaking...a method just like yours

Note that in the Casey Anchorman vid he is not Downwinding but riding in sideshore light wind shore break conditions. Pumping directly upwind in DW wind speeds (15kt) for any distance is probably a cardio killer even for the Caseys out there.

Hey, I'm I right that we could cut the PVC off below the webbing ring and replace it with lighter nylon or Dacron and make it way easier to manage when holding it?
I was thinking the same, ripstop should take the loads easily and reduce weight and bulk a lot.Maybe double ripstop for luck.

For that price i might give it a whirl...the Duotone rental guy at El Medano told me the locals were playing with those anchors too. Do you know which size anchor you bought?. These kayak drift anchors come in 18,24 and 32 inches. I would think the 18in should be enough but not sure. Just for the safety aspect they are really cool. Really interested in seeing how they perform.

Next Board is being built.
6' 9" x 26" x 5" @ 119 liters. Target weight 9 lbs 12 oz.
XPS Core: Top 1" is 1.8 lbs per cubic foot. The pink 2" x 2 slabs is Home Depot Foamular @ 1.5 lbs per cubic foot.
My Sailfish has 40 sessions now. There are some dents on the deck that are parrallel to eachother (?). Meaning square stance, but I never stand square - KNEE dents.
Having fallen of the board at least 20+ times per session I estimate 800 remounts, kneeling and standing on the board. That's a lot of knees.
My rail on the left side is also showing constant wear. I suspect this was from climbing on Over-and-Over. The edge was NOT rounded enough. I liked the square edge for control, but BAD, BAD, BAD for wear resistance. Going to go for 1" Diameter on this new board.
Also - I am going to use 2.2 oz Kevlar INSTEAD of 1.4 oz Glass on the bulk of the Nose and Tail. Much better wear resistance at a similar weight.
PS: I hot wired the rails with a $38 Amazon hot-wire kit. Worked great for rails. I needed some help from our local 'shape-shack' to hot wire the nose rocker with a 30" wide wire and template.
On the second pic, what are you using as a guide for the hotwire?. Is it a braided steel wire or solid metal rod...? Thx!.

I dunno what impresses me more, how well such a minimalistic board is taking the wear or how many days in the water you get

I'm not an engineer but does nothing take into account the apparent weight of the supposed displacement/planing hull and just how much water that hull is actually displacing once the foil begins to apply a considerable amount of lift. When the foil lifts 90% of the board and rider weight, could not the very features designed for planing then become more advantageous versus the displacement portions of the same hull. Having spent considerable time doing flatwater pop-ups, the hopping/slapping phase, just before lift off, consists only of the very flat bottom of board temporarily touching the water's surface . If the apparent weight of this board is only a fraction of its actual weight(from foil lift), could not planing occur during each, ever accelerating, touch down? just wondering.
This is a good point i think. IMHO planing does happen for sure on touchdowns and it is the main reason for the hard chines and planing shape bits on a Kalama or similar design. Round surfaces create a lot less lift at the same speed so they bog down more. As always there has to be a compromise between an "ideal" displacement hull like a Surfski or K1 and a planing surfboard . It might take some time to find out what is best , there are many variations possible and different uses (DW,light wind Wing, SUP surf unbroken waves etc...).

From a board building group on Fbook i remember guys saying they had done this but with lots of delam problems. You are only going to get a mechanical bond as the mast is fully cured epoxy. The outer layer is going to take the biggest traction (and compression too?) loads.

Have a look into the Black Diamond JetForce backpacks which inflate avalanche airbags by battery and electric pump.
I have no idea if the battery and pump are already waterproof or can be sealed off to be waterproof. Maybe shrinkwrap plastic around it or something. Or convince Black Diamond to make a waterproof version.
If it could be waterproofed you would have both the inflating system and the backpack to carry your wing in one already made pack. It would just need an extension to the airtube for pumping up and a connector to the wing.

That pump is designed for superquick inflation, i am not sure it will go up to the PSI's we need for a wing. I once test inflated my ABS avy backpack (compressed air) but i cannot remember how hard the bags inflated...i think less than a wing.

Out of curiosity, how much will they charge for that hub?. Once you have a "design" polished and ready what would be your guesstimate for a full front wing (without a home printer, ordering the pieces).

This project could change foiling in wondrous ways. When you guys get this tech to work (i think you will) the Infinity or Prandtl or Boxwing that i firmly believe to be the future of foiling might vecome an affordable reality for the masses Pics are from https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100054654391004

Mmm, you guys are right. Copper may be useless for protecting alu. Magnesium and zinc would be it...alu is in fact a good anode for many metals . I think i will let it go, not going to buy this stuff to protect a gong fuse that is used in lake water only.
