Longtime windsurfer (with some windfoiling experience) & SUPer (race & surf) - 6’3” 180lbs - late last year bought Cyber Monday deal from Naish - the 2019 Hover Crossover 120 & 2019 Thrust Surf foils (L & XL) + windsurf foil. Masts are aluminum, wings are carbon. Original intent was for SUP surf foiling & windsurf foiling. Didnt intend for winging until very recently. Decided to jump into winging and got the new Naish S25 (4.6 and found that was too small, trying to sell it), now have the 6.0.

At the moment, im on a large lake (gusty wind) without a good launch for jump in & go...requires some upwind maneuvering to the windline. Ive successfully tow foiled the Hover Crossover 120 behind a boat with the L surf foil. Ive successfully used the wing on 11’ SUP in light wind. However, ive yet to successfully fly the foil with the wing...even with XL Thrust Foil and 6m wing in 15-20mph wind. Board/foil feel sluggish...i bear downwind a little bit and pump, but still not able to fly the foil.

Anyone here have experience with this setup and have some tips?

Travel, Trips, Destinations / Tahoe/Kings Beach
« on: July 22, 2016, 01:46:24 PM »
Taking family on NoCal vacation next month and will be in Kings Beach/Lake Tahoe for a couple days.  If lake is glassy/calm, I want to take them SUPing at some of those scenic clear blue water spots.  Ive been there once and recall some beautiful paddle worthy spots on the east side of lake below Incline Village.

What are those spots and where should we launch?
Will the Kings Beach SUP shops let us haul rental boards there?
Any other recommended paddle worthy scenic spots on the lake to take the family to?

Travel, Trips, Destinations / San Diego In June
« on: May 11, 2015, 08:03:00 AM »
Hi SUP Zoners, I'll be in San Diego on business the week of June 8-12.  I may have some time to SUP surf...perhaps an hour or two early morning or other times of day depending on my schedule that week.  I'll be working downtown/convention center area but staying at hotel near Presidio Park/RiverPointe Golf Club area....about 5-6 miles from Sunset Cliffs...and may have my own rental car.  My initial research shows OEX Point Loma might be the nearest & most convenient place to rent a SUP surfboard.  I have lots of SUP surfing experience (mostly east coast), including CA spots such as Bolsa Chica, Goleta Pt, & Santa Cruz....I dont require big waves...just fun ones...and in SUP friendly spots.  Would love to hit the water with SUP Zoner locals.

Sunset Cliffs fit that bill?  Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance!  Mac

Gear Talk / Re: need advice on how to grip a slick paddle shaft
« on: August 12, 2014, 06:29:34 PM »
Thanks everyone....very helpful!   I'm going to try the vet wrap first & maybe the stand up paddle wax and see how it goes.  Sounds like hockey tape might be rough on the hands.

Gear Talk / need advice on how to grip a slick paddle shaft
« on: August 12, 2014, 02:56:17 PM »
My race paddle shaft gets very slick in the hot & humid summer months from sweat while paddling and my lower hand slips.  What is the best way to add grip to the shaft without increasing the shaft radius?

« on: January 08, 2013, 04:15:26 PM »
Anyone know date of 2013 SEAPaddle NYC event?  Also, something is going on with their website. Seapaddlenyc.org - I get a malware warning when trying to go to their web site...hopefully they fix it soon.
