Foil SUP / Re: Takuma TK series boards
« on: July 20, 2021, 07:59:50 AM »
I have the Naish Carbon ultra at  95 liter - I'm 190 pounds, and its pretty stable to SUP on. A bit slow to accelerate under paddle, but not bad, great once its on foil. Feels less swing than I thought...

My deck cracked under the front foot after 2 months, for no reason that I know of and Naish denied it was a warranty issue. Minor repair, but not what I would have expected from a top brand - but other than that its a fun board.

Foil SUP / Stance question
« on: September 11, 2020, 02:44:59 PM »
So... I have a Lift Efoil- super fun, especially in surf with the folding prop.
I am trying to get into regular surf SUP foiling. Tricky. :-)

But - Lift explicitly says to offset feet from the center line for better control. (e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PlxX_3gsQQ0&list=PLVsytymeTH_kdiUAd_uwUY32HZdSYwfRN&index=6  - See at 2:18.)

I hear that on an unpowered foil this is a bad idea?
I paddle in and stand up surf, too, and have my feet on the center line for them, but it does seem to have more lateral control on a lift foil when offset - and I would have thought anything where I am that elevated on the mast would act the same...

So is the correct stance on the center line, always?

Advice (and reasons) appreciated!
Thanks

Is San O good on all tides? Or finicky?

Ah... I never would have thought of that - the foil being so far back relative to the rest of the board. Makes sense! Thanks!

Yeah, I think avoiding named beaches is a good call until I can control the foil more. (It's probably my 4 th time out today.  So I can take off, lift off onto the foil, fly for 6 feet, then usually end up turning toeside off the wave (not intentionally), or just falling over...)

Went out at a non-break at Dockweiler state beach, under LAX. SHort shore break, but no one around and good enough for me to get some short rides.

I'll try San O I'm down for the drive. THanks all!

ANd maybe it's just my unfamiliarity with the spot - but while everyone says San O is the place to learn, I look at the cameras on surfline and its super crowded - which does not seem like the place to learn to me. :-)

Is there an off camera place at San O that is more conducive to falling off a foil?

Foil SUP / Breaks to learn to SUP foil near Venice?

Hi all.
I'm spending time in LA a bunch visiting my girlfriend. What are good breaks to learn to SUP foil around here?
Mushy, sandy bottom, not steep...
And not crowded. :-)
In an old thread I saw El Porto mentioned - but that always seem to to have too many surfers out for me to be comfortable learning.

Any tips?
Thanks!
