The Shape Shack / Re: Thruster vs Quad test on new board
« on: February 19, 2021, 03:00:17 AM »
The Hobie CMLB Raw rips as a thruster.  But I really dig riding it with a 8.5" single fin on small days.  The 12' PSH Gun is also fun as a single fin.

Funny - I have ridden my PSH 12' as a single fin for almost 10 years.  The reason - It is faster.  I don't care about turning so much.

As a quad it was a DOG!  I pretty much use the 12' PSH when it is guaranteed 12 to 15' faces and UP, UP and Away.

I am interested to know which single fin you run in your PSH 12 footer as I have the same board but run thruster set up.

Foil SUP / What legrope for foiling
« on: December 28, 2019, 10:53:40 PM »
Finally bitten the bullet and starting sup foiling on a DC foiilboard (7'2) and go foil wing setup, Just wondering what legrope setup is recommended as I've had my short 6 ft cord caught around the back wing a few times. Seen waist cords , knee cords and curled cords as well as ankle leashes .
What are your thoughts?

Great review Piros.
The sport is evolving so fast and you are all over the latest trends of both board and foil designs.
Keep them coming.

Gear Talk / Re: 12' Atlantis Venom - Surfboard Warehouse - Australia
« on: November 28, 2017, 02:24:41 AM »
I have one the Venoms and surf it at the Alley on the Gold Coast which is a super fun ride hand point break .

The pic of the whitewater is here at the Currumbin Alley , Gold Coast a while back. I remember it well as I surfed that swell on my 12 ft PSH gun which is very similar in shape but much heavier.

The Venom being carbon is very light , but is really easy to surf set up as a quad.

Life has a habit of throwing us some curve balls indeed .

Thank you to all fellow zoners for you support and kind words following my recent event .

Paddling out at burleigh heads point the other day was the best rehab for me ever. Cracked a few nice ones and thanked the big fella for letting me stay around abit longer.

Must admit though there is always the element of doubt in the back of your mind that it might happen again. Your sub conscious voice is nasty.

However ticking all the boxes at cardio rehab so far.

SUP General / Returning to surf after heart attack
« on: June 29, 2015, 09:09:03 PM »
This afternoon saw me back in the water  getting a few waves since having a heart attack on May 27th whilst surfing with my school surfing class.

Felt unwell suddenly, lightheadedness, indigestion pain and fatigued at the same time so went in and called my doc who got me to have a blood test and ecg.Got the call back a few hours later telling me I had to get to the hospital ASAP as I had had a heart attack in the surf.(WTF) Initially thought my new 7'8 Minion was giving me a good workout!

3 Stents later from 3 arteries 99,95,92 % blocked I'm good to go again. I never have smoked, don't have diabetes, normal cholesterol and BP and am fit as I am a 49 year old PE teacher. Specialists can't tell me why it happened as no family history either.

Probably the reason I am posting this is to just remind everyone who reads this is to get regular checkups from your GP and listen to your body and any pain above your ribs. Stats show that 50% of heart attack victims don't make it to hospital alive.

Glad to be looking at the water from 6 foot above instead of below ;)

Stoked  to see your enjoying the board.

To get even more performance out of it get that back foot back more and the board comes alive even more through the turns and accelerates faster out of the turn.

How do I know....cause i ride on everyday ;)

Great choice, you won't be disappointed. My mate here on the Gold Coast is the designer/shaper and surfs these boards daily. He has put a lot of thought and clever ideas into the shape and the do perform really well.

My mate and i spent 3 weeks in Bali in January this year on the 7'3 model and were truly stoked. Super fast and really loose and remember to get the back foot right back when turning ;)

Went  to the premier on Sat night and the movie was amazing.

Great soundtrack, good crew and some awesome surfing ;). Most insane kitesurfing barrel pull through I've ever seen.

As they say...... " do yourself a favour and watch it "

The Gerry Lopez fins are a very big set of fins.I found them too tight for my liking.

They can stiffen the feel up greatly so try a smaller set. I use Pancho Sullivan fronts and controller rears which give great drive and pivot.

I would put smaller fins in a your board will feel like a new stick ;)

Another good set are Shapers Jackson close S9's or Power quad set .

Nice compilation video of his tour.

He seems like such a knowledgable yet humble man.

I have cut my Kialoa paddles down many times by heating it up slowly with the wife's hairdryer on hot and then cracking the glue join by twisting the blade and handle in opposite directions.
Has worked every time so far.

Sand the shaft a little then epoxy the handle back on.

How would Future controllers work as twin fins or Future T1's maybe?

Any ideas?
