Hi everyone.
I've been on the Signature Albatross 210 since picking one up in Maui last year.
It's a Pump Master, and glides for days.
I run outta gas after three waves.  :o

Cardiff, If you want to be challenged bring your sup foil and do a maliko downwinder while your here. I promise you will be challenged.

I need to get a smaller Sup-foil board made so I can travel with it.
Thinking of a 5'4"x25" or so.
Will hit you up in September.  :D

I like that Takuma!

Blue Planet’s Carver series Sup-foil boards would work well.
Unfortunately the carbon models are not much lighter than the standard construction  but they are probably quite durable.

I like the 5 foot 2“ x 26 1/2“ board
Foot strap inserts included.
No need for multiple boards, IMO.

Limited availability when I called a couple weeks ago (November).

Freedom Foil Boarfs out of San Clemente has a cool board called “The Skillet”.
They are custom order only.

Bill, somewhere between Trestles and Tijuana.  ;D

But I will be in Maui next week! Definitely bringing my foil gear.

How are you guys purchasing the new setups?

Their website gives no info.

I emailed them and Alex replied.  He said to email another address. I did,  and haven’t heard back from them.

Is there a secret handshake?

Maybe I’m doing something wrong.

So, I'm not sure who reads this section of the forum, but...

I just wanted to say that after SUP'ing 99.9% of the time over the past ten years, I prefer prone-foiling to SUP-foiling (for now, at least).
Prone foiling is much more of a challenge.  I'm always out of position, take way too many waves on the head and exhaust myself paddling around just to get a couple glides.
When I get on the SUP-foil, it's so much easier.  It's not boring, but I don't feel as challenged.
Hell, I'm still a total n00b.  Can't really do nice turns and I fall all the time.

Just curious if anyone who may read this wants to reply if they have tried both disciplines.

Foil SUP / Re: Dynamics of catching a wave

Chiming in:

My regular SUP is 7'4"x25" @84L, I weigh 165lbs.
Because it's kinda narrow, I prefer to always paddle in a surf stance..then widen it a bit just before taking off on a wave.  I call it ditch-digging paddling.  Hunched over, using my upper body weight to paddle furiously.

Now that I'm on a SUP foil board (6'10"x28") that has foot straps, I've paddled around with my feet in them, though it's really an uncomfortably wide stance.  But it assures that my feet are exactly where they need to be when up and flying.
So, I mainly use just the front foot strap, then slide my rear foot back over the mast just before stroking into a wave.

The less I need to move my stance (foot position), the quicker everything flows for me.

(Now to work on my grammar and sentence forming)  ::)

Regarding prone foiling:

I bought a 7'0" Foamie and a Foil-Mount adhesive plate.
It could be a fun experiment, or total disaster.
I've not seen any prone foil boards over 6'6" in use around here, and certainly not seen a foam one.
Here's to hoping it will be über stable and fun.  8)

Yes!
Thanks.
Bill, I could hear you yelling at me on that wave,  so I stood tall and
faced forward with broad shoulders.  *click*

Today

Third session on a SUP foil. First session using a front foot strap.
I'm putting the rear one on tomorrow.
Such a wide stance...I think it'd be easier to just use both.

Thanks for the coaching, Bill. Yes it’s hard to know what I am doing wrong without outside observation and from people who know how to do this, or are at least more experienced than I am.  With all the research and videos that I have done, I have been too focused on foot placement. Rarely are my feet out of place, and now I’ll focus more on the upper body part (Get in the flow).

And it does feel like I am crouching too much, but that is what beginners do because being two feet off the water feels pretty scary sometimes!  I have certainly achieved some pretty long flight times, but then out of nowhere I hit the deck because the foil breached. Muscle memory, practice and more experience will fix all of that. One day at a time, one session at a time.

 :)

Edit:  And fools like me who think we know everything have the hardest time doing the simplest things.

Sessions / The Cardiff Foil Sessions

Hello people of the interwebs.

So, the Sweeper's collection of foiling equipment is rapidly growing, and so are his foiling skills (if only)...
And just like how I predicted, my new hobbies quickly have money throw at them.
I've amassed two foil boards, two complete Ke Nalu foil setups with a total of four wings. Two small, two large.
There is a SUP foil board on the way...soon.

I've had about 40 sessions in the water since late February.
The first 20 were a disaster, but a lesson with a local pro quickly elevated my skills (pun intended).
My repeated mistake is getting the board too high and breaching the wing.
I'm such a heavy rear-footed surfer, that every few waves I don't keep enough weight on the front foot and nose-dive...HARD.
This morning I did test out a 6'10" SUP and after a couple unsuccessful takeoffs, I got it dialed in.

Ok, here's some multimedia content:

This isn't pretty, but I also didn't know someone was filming.  Of course, the least attractive wave was recorded:

Oh...and I fall a lot, and haven't figured out how to pump back out to the lineup.
But I dream of stitching multiple waves together.

Cheers.
