On another forum I frequent, the phrase "do you have change for a nickel" works pretty damn good.

Those are all good things to give a try. When you seal it, make sure you take it back down to foam. All you want to to do is fill the voids on the outside of the blank, and expose the beads on the outside surface to have something for the resin to adhere to. To much spackle and it wont bond.

Watch your laminating temps, as I've had better luck with with a much warmer laminating room. Also try to post cure as much as possible.

But a vent is always a good option to save a lot of deck work later.

Buy a glass on thruster center fin and use a hot glue gun to fix it in place. As long as the area is slightly roughed up, it will stay and you can experiment with placement without board damage. But I generally agree with the "learn to paddle properly and use good rail pressure" advice already given. Plus I tried mid board fins 5 years ago and wasnt impressed.

A mohair roller actually works great for thinner resins. Plus you can bag it, throw it in the freezer and it's good to next time. My free laps are even with the tip of my thumb with my hand on the board, thats just how I cut them.

I would run a 5"ish hard plastic squeegie from HD, as the silk screening one's can be to wide for tucking laps and what not. And I would flow it out on to the glass as soon as it's mixed, spread it around quickly so it soaks into the glass but doesn't pool. Then I run a 4-5 hard line's down the middle working my way out to the rails. When that's stuck good, I pull perpendicular to the boards out to the rails wetting out the lap. Tuck the rails, make sure the glass is tight, with a lightly raised glass structure ("lofting the glass") and there are no shiny spots (excess resin). You'll be surprised how far resin can go once you get it down. Measure your waste resin that you are able to get back into the bucket and try subtracting half that amount from you initial mix amount.

a good vid to watch

Sounds like it, but it's really just a firm pressure. And the cheap yellow plastic squeegie's from home depot have worked best for me. If you have too much resin on the foam, the glass floats off, so get as much off as you can.

When I glass, I dump out the bulk of the resin and just spread it out quick. Then I let it soak in for a bit, then squeegie it out with a stiff plastic squeegie, never a soft rubber one. Works for me. Try checking out swaylocks for more tips.

x 2. I take it to mainland Mex for the jungle treks and it goes to the river with me for any long carries. All you have to do is lock it up when you get there with a small cable lock.

Get a CG rated WW vest and make it one with a quick release. The rio is a whole other ball of wax. When I use a leash, its a 10' coil.

Otherwise, helmet, PFD and footwear are a must.  I am really stoked on the new Teva water shoe.  It is like a skate shoe for water sports: http://www.coloradokayak.com/Teva-Gnarkosi-Mens?sc=26&category=18151

And I will be getting a pair of these at some point in time this season. My old wake skate shoes drain like crap.
