Foil SUP / Progression project foiling podcasts
« on: August 13, 2019, 04:55:43 PM »
For those of you who are familiar with Erik Antonson, he has started foiling podcasts.

Pretty interesting to listen to, especially if you can listen to while at work :)

here is the latest with Zane.  Sound was a bit off, but there are some nuggets of info.

Dan, there are 3 on Craigslist.  I think they are either in OC or SD.  They are pricey.

Foil SUP / Re: Mast position in tracks vary by wave size
« on: July 23, 2019, 09:34:44 AM »
I moved the mast forward up half inch and definitely felt like i could get into the weak waves that were on tap this morning.  Also felt like it allowed me to stay with the energy easier too.

So until i amass a quiver of masts (straight, angle) and wing sizes, moving the mast around in the tracks seems to be the minimalist way to go for me.  However, I would like to get a bigger wing for small days....some day

Foil SUP / Mast position in tracks vary by wave size
« on: July 22, 2019, 10:03:16 AM »
Just picked up a new Foil Sup with tracks as opposed to tuttle.  Was curious if you guys change your mast position when conditions change or just leave it in the same location.  I have had it out a handful of sessions and feel like i have a good position for when the waves have some push.  Was planning on experimenting tomorrow but wanted to know what the brain trust thought here :)

For your troubles, below are pix of my new board.  Not as sexy as wings but still eye candy.

thats a great board for doho.  I really enjoyed mine when I had it but I sold mine to fund my foil habit :(  I may need to find another surf sup soon.

I got a good local chiro if you need one.  PM me if you want his contact info.

Foil SUP / Re: Fastest learning method to Foiling
« on: June 06, 2019, 10:37:42 AM »
So my humble opinion here.

I am in my 50s, surfed most of my life (shortboard).  I learned in the waves.  I am nearing the magical 75th session, this took me to roughly 7 months to accumulate this amount.  Very little prone surfing during that time.  The last 5-10 sessions i have started to feel more comfortable on foil plus starting to cutback and forth.

I think the best recommendation to accelerate the foiling process is:
1 Get a very stable SUP so you can focus on paddling for a wave and getting lift
2 Get a good foil (eg GF IWA)
3 Find an isolated beach with slow mushy small waves with no one around.
4 i think this is the most important one - get as much time in the water to practice.

Nothing new above but thats been my experience.

thats not Dave D.  Similar but not him.  the demo board in the video was a slingshot, if that was Dave would have been one of his.

yea i am switching from a tuttle to tracks soon and wanted a quick method to install the mast.  i may try the teflon tape on the T nuts to see if they stay in place for quick installation.

Anybody try or using this?  Looks really efficient for those of us that need to break down their rig to fit in their cars.
