Lots more folks Sup'ing in the Keys now. Check out Lazy Dog Paddle Shack and Sue Cooper, Capt. Westy, Barb or one of the other girls will hook you up. Many boards to choose from. They have a website. They are prepping for the Key West Classic which is a 12 mile race around the island on May 14th. There are people coming in from all over for this race....better call soon to reserve a board.

Danny was very laid back and approachable at the Orange Bowl Paddle Championship and several friends enjoyed the paddle clinic he put on later that week before heading up to the Expo.
My bright green Monster 12'6" should be arriving relatively soon. I'll try and provide some feedback for you after I get it wet.

Stopped in and picked up some Shop t-shirts and an xm 10' coiled leash. Nice folks. Wish I hadn't broken some bones in my foot a few days before arriving to Blue Ridge. No hiking  or SUP'ing. Just beer and bear watch. They are definitely super stoked.

Share the Stoke / Bolle' has me stoked

I entered a contest several months ago to design a kaleidescope for free sunglasses. Was notified yesterday that I was one of 6 chosen to receive two pairs of sunglasses of my choice with lenses of my choice. Woo-hoo!!! Had to revise choices to include wifey.......was not gonna be able to get outta the doghouse if I didn't. What made the day was I had just broke a bone in my foot or toe...toe was completely sideways and the news of the contest took out some of the sting of the injury.

Random / Re: lionfish sighting

Yup...and nice kills. Went back today with a a couple of nets as I don't have a spear rig at present. He was in the same place again so I tried several attemps with both nets to bag him and even tried to smash and corner him but that little bugger was so fast. Then he disappeared for good. Went back with the 5 yr old to see if we could spot him but he was holed up somewhere. Again, as much as I don't want him there it was cool to observe him and interact at a safe distance. If I catch him live he's going in a bucket straight to the local sushi bar for prep.

Random / lionfish sighting
« on: June 05, 2010, 01:06:30 PM »
Was out snorkeling with my 5 and 10 yr olds having a great time spotting all kinds of local species and then BAM!!! My first sighting of the invasive lionfish. It was in five feet of water, less than 100ft from shore hanging out with a bunch of Mangrove Snapper, a cow fish, and a few other locals. Darn good teachable moment for the kids, finger waving in front of thier masks with the wave back so as to give him his room. You could tell he was getting ticked off, flaring out his fins. I have to admit I was kinda stoked to see it.  Made the necessary reports.

Currently using a standard longboard ankle leash. Waiting to call over to Australia and speak with the folks at Balin about ordering one of those sweet half coiled, half straight knee cuff leggies. (No U.S. companies are carrying them)
