I've been very happy with the Takoon wings. Where I live I use the 7m most of all.
Takoon tested highly here: https://takoon.com/blogs/news/windsurf-magazine%20 The 7M Takoon has the best published lowest wind range 7-18k. Starboard Freewing Air 7M = 8-20k Gong Superpower 9M 8-15k F-one 6M 8-20k Slingwing 6.4M 8.7-17.4k Anyone tested the low end of the 6M BoardridingMaui?
After three month wait, I received an email this morning that my Takoon 7 has shipped. Yay! At 215lbs and lack of skill, I was unable to get the F-One 6m going at 8 knots, Gong 9m will get me flying at 8 knots. Will see if this 7m Takoon will get me going at that speed.

Surfside, all I can say is that when I'm vaccinated, expect me. 😂🤣
I've never been so eager to hit IAH in my life.
Also, I'm working on toe side riding. I rewatched that shot of you going out over and over. Nice form.
SC, look forward to your visit! Sadly, I was not sailing this day. We had to prepare the beach house for the possibility of the storm hitting us and depart before a mandatory evacuation was called. I never want to sit in evacuation traffic for 18 hours again!

Doug, I'm 215 lbs and lacking in experience but I'll share a session I had. 6-11 mph using a Maliko 280 with 18" wide stab. Pumped up on foil amazingly easy but constantly had to focus on going upwind...pumps through the lulls. Switched to the GL 210 which was more work to fly but improved upwind and speed making the sail a joy to fly. I went without a harness and after two hours I could no longer hold on. Glad I own one for desperado times and bad forecasts.

my experience is that it isn't just the length. think about: 1) swing weight. Light weight and short are great here. But a longer board that is lighter can be lower swing weight depending on how much lighter and if the nose shape is pulled in or thinned out. 2) balance point of the board+foil in relation to the foil - pick up your board/foil upside down and you want it to balance about one third to one half of the way back from the leading edge of the front wing. That means the lifting center of the foil is aligned with the center of mass of the board. When you unweight the board to pump, it'll fly along lifting up nicely. If it is too front heavy, it won't come up as well when you unweight it. 3) with the foil adjusted to the right spot for weight balance point as in #2 above, it is also hopefully in the right spot versus the floating center of the board while you're paddling into the wave
All in all, I'd say once you're down to a 4'8" board, if its decently well weight balanced (#2 above) then going shorter is going to have only a minor effect. You'll get bigger gains by working on your technique - staying high out of the water on the foil being the biggest one.
Excellent! Will keeps this in mind on the next board build. Thanks

Thanks DP. Forgive me not adding photos.... Surfs up and the photos are on the pc at home. This weekend I'll be back in front of the pc. SC, yes 4oz under all dvcell with the addition of carbon/innegra weave under the standing area. The last layer is innegra which does not get sanded. I'll explain more with the photos.

Thanks SC! I glued scraps of foam with the "red can expanding foam". Hot wired the shape, vac bag the 1/8" DVcell with 4oz glass and 7oz carbon innegra weave under the standing area. 4oz tight weave glass over complete board then hand layup 3.5oz innegra. Carbon on the rails for paddle impact protection. Took it out yesterday winging in 10-15 and it got on foil easily. Looking forward to some surf the next couple of days. Folks on the beach admiring and asking if I would build boards for them....uh, no...contact Dwight. Pictures to follow shortly.

My first full PVC over pieces of foam glued together. What a chore after the fill coat did not harden correctly so, paint it is. Innegra with carbon rails 7'3" x 30". Added another strap to get it wet winging today but it's for SUP foiling the outside sets. Dedicated wing board next

I see a FSM board under the green winger (Maui Cloud) I wish we had a jetty like that. Looks so fun.
The Armstrong guy is riding nose low and his back foot is shaking and wobbly. Sign of running too small a tail wing, usually.
Dwight, Dave and John appreciate your suggestion and have switched to a larger stab.
