I have a brand new and unused Nalu wing for sale - I'm in Australia though, not sure what shipping is like

There are many spots close to, or within a 10-40 minute drive of Manly. Where are you staying exactly? (I'm from Manly so I know it well).

Manly beach itself isn't that great for surf - very little shape and pretty crowded. In February, you'll be best to go in the morning before the wind comes up. The sweet spot is about 8-10 (after people have had a pre-work surf and before the tourists get there).

Just to the south of Manly is a point called fairy bower, near Shelly beach. Great sup and longboard wave, but needs a bit of swell to make it break.

Other than that, any of the 20 or so beaches on the Northern Beaches (the long peninsula that stretches north from Manly to Palm Beach) are good for a surf - generally the further north you go, the less crowded. A good option is Long Reef Beach (the northern end of Dee Why Beach) especially in summer, as it is protected from the prevailing winds, and also feels like you're a bit out of the city. Probably the only place you wouldn't take a sup is North Narrabeen - it's a classic break and I don't think the locals have warmed to sups there yet.

If you're looking to hire a board, WindSurfnSnow at Collaroy is probably your best bet in terms of range

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your input!

Looks like a longboard will be the go - I wasn't thinking it would be as cold in the water as everyone is saying it will be though!

Where are you surfing going over the whitewater in front of that city?

Probably the Gold Coast in Australia. I'm guessing he's surfing at Kirra or thereabouts (further down the line from Snapper Rocks where the Quicksilver Pro is held). Those buildings in the background are about 20 kilometres away (or 13 miles) but appear closer because of the camera's depth effect

Random / Surfing SoCal in early April
« on: November 20, 2017, 07:45:57 PM »
Hi guys,
I have planned a trip to California in early next April, will be hiring a car or van for a week, doing the coast from San Diego to San Francisco. I'm from Australia.
I am hoping to surf some of the iconic locations - Huntington, Malibu, Rincon and whatever looks good on the day. I am thinking surfing (prone) would be the way to go - a sup and paddle would be too hard to organise while on the move. I have a couple of questions:
1. Would you recommend I buy a (2nd hand) board when I get over there, or just hire one each day depending on where I am? Are there many places to hire boards at reasonable prices?
2. What kind of board would you recommend for these waves at this time of year?
I surf pretty much every style of board so can adapt fairly easily.
If you have any other suggestions for travelling around California that would be much appreciated too!
Cheers

Good idea on the clear coat. I picked one up last year as I was doing a road trip (the surfboard warehouse is about 1000 kilometres, or 600 miles, away from where I live) and then it sat on the roof of the car for the remainder of the trip, being about a week in the Australian Summer sun. Well and truly lost that neon look. But It doesn't upset me. Great board. Have had it out in huge surf, tiny surf, and even a howling downwinder (which was incredibly fun having a board you could surf rather than a race board)

The V2 are highly sought after on the Zone. Those that have them have established a minimum resale price at $5,000 U.S. If you are lucky enough to find an owner willing to part with it. Perhaps Iggy's last best shape. They will only increase in value.

Well I am here to post in this most important thread.. And to undercut Rideordie.  I will sell my V2 for $4,999.95 (Excited States dollars, or 10 zillion $Cdn.)
So yeah, a coveted board, for those who covet such boards..

And I can undercut Muskoka down to $3,000 USD, however you will have to paddle it home from Australia  :D
