Random / Re: Retiring But where?
« on: February 11, 2019, 01:39:08 PM »
I have been retired for 13 years.  My home base is Deep South Texas.  Super cheap unless you live right on the water.  Too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter.  We spend the winter at our home in Mexico.  Very inexpensive and perfect climate.  Too hot in the summer.  We spend summer in Costa Rica.  Pleasant temperatures but very expensive.  Hawaii level prices unless you are eating rice and beans.

I just can’t imagine anything electric/electronic surviving in a salt water environment for very long.

KINGS Paddlesports makes the strongest looking Tuttle that I have seen. (Sorry I don’t have a photo).  The high density foam block surrounding the actual box is much larger than other brands. It’s called appropriately, KING TUT.  They also make a track box setup that is much the same. Back in the day of big windsurfing, Chinook made a fin box that had rod type appendage that extended out of the bottom of the box, which effectively made the box extend to the deck of the board. That would be an simple modification of the fin box mold that would provide super strength (if any manufacturers are reading this).  When the rod wasn’t needed, it was a simple matter to grind it flush prior to install.

Foil SUP / Re: Anyone with specs on the Dave Kalama type foil boards?

Dave does not have a website that I know of. He will ship. You can also buy from HiTech in Maui. I suspect that the boards are made at the same factory as Jimmy Lewis as they are made in Vietnam.

My buddy just bought a Kalama production board. We took it for a flat water paddle this morning. 6’0” x 28” x 115L. Very stable for its size. Weight in normal construction is 18 lbs.

Dave did message me last night that the 6’0” is 115L and the 6’6” is 133L.

I messaged him and he told me he would have a website soon, but no info. I got the lengths from HiTech but they have no other info. 5’6”, 6’, 6’6” and 7’.

So, no one answered the questions on the new production board dimensions.  Anyone know?

This wave started out about head high but quickly dropped off to thigh high.  Wind was light side-offshore from the land side.  I was lucky to have a ride back each time.  Burning hot sand and billions of mosquitos.

It was 1642 yards.  Figuring it out by math comes to around four minutes.

It was quite a popular spot in the 60's and 70's, but with shorter boards and more consistent spots discovered, it fell out of favor.  It's hard to catch it breaking through the points like this.  Perfect for a big SUP.  On this day I was the only person out.  Matachen Bay.

It helps to have a ride back to the takeoff spot.

Matapalo on the Osa Peninsula or Matapalo near Dominical?  Cause there is no such thing as a condo on the Osa.

I have put boards on the bus to Puerto Jimenez many times but 9'6" might be too long for the bus compartment.  Where are you staying?
