Gear Talk / Re: Kenalu Paddle dealer

I contacted Kenalu. They are out of stock of any paddle blades with no eta for a new shipment. There must be some independent vendors that have some in stock.

I bought the Buff Water2 gloves. Used them today for the first time. They prevented my hands from slipping on the paddle shaft . Now, my only concern would be durability. I keep ya'll posted.

I know some of y'all up in northern climates wear neoprene gloves to stay warm. But do any of you wear gloves in temperate waters paddle with gloves to get a good grip on the paddle or protect from blisters?
My hands slip on the paddle shaft when sweaty. Am looking at the Buff water 2 gloves. They have a gel like grip on the palm that would seem not to slip.

Gear Talk / Kenalu Blades
« on: June 04, 2016, 11:11:54 AM »
I have a full carbon shaft and blade (no name) but the blade I believe to be a 110. It measures 8 3/4" x 18". If used for an extended paddle, it hurts my shoulder. I have a Werner adjustable that is a 95 and I do just fine with it. Could I either heat up the shaft and remove the existing blade or even cut the blade off. I need to shorten the shaft 4 inches anyway. Would a Kenalu blade in 85 or 95 fit any 1 1/4" shaft?
Are there any other manufacturers that sell blades only?

Like QUICKBEAM, I too came from the kayak world. I am 52. Ever since I can remember, I was riding waves from body surfing to boogie boards. I tried prone surfing briefly as a teen but did not have the knack for it. Living 3 hours from any decent break did not allow me the time to develop the skill set. Got into surf kayaking about 6 or 7 years ago but lately it hurt my shoulders. Bought my 1st SUP maybe 2 years ago. It does not hurt my shoulder. Sold my surf kayak and got my 2nd board on order. Fixin to kick this thing in high gear! Yeah  8)

SUP General / Cutting Paddle Shaft

I have an all-carbon paddle and shaft that I would like to cut shorter. Whats the best technique? I would need to remove the existing handle. Does heating it up with a heat gun do the trick?

Keep forehead on the ground, lift arm and reach far. She told me also, to pinch your shoulder blades together while keeping you elbows tight to your side while trying to touch the back of your hand to your shoulder with a resistance band connecting hands.

I went to a Physical Therapist today for shoulder pain. I mentioned I had the pain between my shoulder blades. She gave me an exercise to do. Lay on your stomach, Stretch your arm over your head as far as possible , as if you are reaching for something then lift it as high as you can at the same time. Hold for 10 seconds. Alternate arms. 10 sets of 10. Do the same with arm straight out to the side.

I paddled Rainbow Springs last July. Beautiful! Had about a 5 foot gator swim under me. No biggie. Where I live, down on da bayou, you may paddle past 5 or 6 at a time from 3 to 8 foot in a bayou 25 feet wide. The big ones will get your attention.

I bought my first paddle board about a year ago. I got that exact pain as well. It probably went on for 4 or 5 months of paddling maybe 3 or 4 miles every other week or so. But I no longer get it. I think my muscles have developed.

It's not that I could not catch waves, once I caught one I believe the design of that particular board did not allow me to turn very easily . It also is very heavy with a single long fin.
