How much are you asking for the keel?

Except for the occasional beer when I go out on the weekends, water IS the only thing I drink.  No coffee, juice, tea, and definitely no soda.  :D

Two more great Blue Planet videos!

Robert, you are effortlessly down to earth and easy going.  I would love to sit down and have a beer or ride some waves together someday!

Thanks for the reply kayadogg,

I rode a 12'6" x 25.5 Starboard Allstar and it was by far the fastest board I have ever paddled. A little tippy but not a huge deal - however it was in flatwater.   A few days later I tried a Kings 12'6" x 26 in moderate chop and fell off 3 times! Right now I am undecided on going narrow. As of today, I am ready to buy a 27 or 28" board. I am open to the idea of "growing into" a board length but I would have to give it a paddle and see.

I would be interested in giving it a try but I live in Nor Cal.  (SF Bay Area)  Feel free to have your friend contact me and if by chance he/she is up my way maybe we can meet up.

SUP General / Focus Cali - carbon or VST?
« on: September 24, 2014, 12:43:32 PM »
Heavily leaning towards a 12'6" Focus Cali. Undecided on whether to go with the ACT (carbon) or the VST (veneer sandwich) version.  Carbon model is 22lbs VST is 26lbs.

Two questions:
1.  Beside the 4lbs less I will be hauling to and from the car. Am I gaining much performance on the water going with the carbon model?

2.  Is the carbon model any less durable than the VST version? It seems there is no definitive "carbon is more fragile than epoxy" consensus, from what I have researched, it seems like durability is more related to how the material is used by a particular manufacture for a specific model.  That being said, (and if this is true) How durable is the carbon Cali compared to the VST Cali?

As stated, I am leaning towards the Cali but also considering the 404 v3 race boards.  (same dilemma - carbon vs epoxy)

Any thoughts or recommendations between the Focus and the 404?

5'7" and 140lbs. This board will mostly see flatwater, some small chop, and racing. I am a fairly new to SUP, (3 months?) my longest paddle so far has been 16 miles, and I have just stated racing. I am officially hooked!

Looking forward to learning more from this forum and contributing to many threads in the future!  ;D

Thanks in advance for any help/advice.

Allen
