the jetty peak at b90 is packed, waves or not--so funny--it can be dead flat on the cam yet youll see ten guys on the peak---no point in even trying to get the peak wave--beachbreak to the west aint bad

67 has been holding well recently, but again, packed---had to straighten out a few times yesterday bc of dopes on the face--maybe they were sick of seeing me get set waves away from the peak, while the crowd got little?? haha

gotta love sup--can get so many waves that would be unridden by the proners--then slip in and grab last wave in a set on the peak (ehich one can see)--but some folk get cranky when they see wave count climbing while theyre sitting in an impossible crowd--whatever

time to saddle up!

lb was a little blown yesterday afternoon, so i checked rock--rock handled the light west better, and then the wind dropped to nothing--surfed past sunset

no time to get to monmo this morning nojerz, so ima give rock another shot---the wind will be a bit stronger, but hopefully the wave size will make the wind less a factor

thx for the offer--next time--board swap session!

Ill be at an LB jetty this pm--gon be very nice--wind is fine now, will go to nil this afternoon, as the swell comes up

might head to MONMO  tomorrow at dawn, if wind doesnt swing a bit north overnight

all this assumes my business doesnt blow up, given fed loss of control of repo rates this week

General Discussion / Re: Why I still love SUP
« on: September 18, 2019, 07:38:44 AM »
i have surpassed my age old pronesurf skils, and continue to improve--that's huge for me at 61 in a couple weeks--drives me so much more than trying to do sport at levels not laughably worse than when i was younger

and it puts me in the ocean in all sorts of beautiful places in all seasons weather conditions etc

sup continues to be redeeming for me as i age.....

foils?  kiting?  dying to engage but fear the time required to learn basics is more than i have left!!

so i still love sup

and ima love humberto when he visits shortly!

centralization is unarguably more efficient than old school, and internet combined with improved transport and delivery make this feasible

and i know my lament that locals get hurt is tired--the wheels of progress always grind up innocents

but amazon crypto transaction currency??

nah i dont like that---enough is enough

reminds me of company stores in industrial towns (way back when we had functioning industrial towns!), where all transactions happened in company "script" (steinbeck), with the company controlling all elements of that  microcosm economy--food, shelter, medical, clothing and retail goods--blah blah

only amazon's not a company store---it's the whole damned world's store---whatever, i am a prime member---dont tell my daughter the writer!!

much as i am resigned, it saddens me how these huge corp entities have completely delocalized our country--and, yeah, it's prolly just tough luck, move on--but it's changing our culture in huge ways that aint always so great... horse long since outta barn tho

no more mom and pop businesses--no more local bookkeeping and accting services, no more local lawyers, no local designer and builders of stores blah blah............replaced with a few working-poor-paylevel jobs

point taken, PB--re growth vs profit--but, with many of these entities, it's all about investor perceptions--often, well into an entity's start cycle, if entity couldn't go back to the investor well, it would fail--at what stage can it be characterized as viable or not??

i cant buy these types of names as individual stox--have plenty imbedded in index etf's etc--but the dinosaur in me resists actively buying these

think WE---what a joke---pls explain why this POS is other than a pile of shitty long term comm'l lease liabilities, with no other side of the bal sheet --a failing WE will signal a serious downturn in comm'l RE--sell REITs when WE's shit starts to hit fan

agreed, taut---believing in our democracy has to include enthusiastic participation, in the form of voting, and expressing one's opinion, including assembling.

but i also have faith we will muddle through, and our capital markets will survive and function well ongoing--our country/democracy, as weve known it, feels endangered---i believe we will be fine in the end

my stox are up too, not bc of trump, but in spite of trump........

Dorian brought best waves of the year to Long beach--brief but excellent window last saturday morning--creek 8'7" loved it--i enjoyed the ride! Caught a tom of great waves, with nary a beating--happy day.

I checked Riis park B149 en rte home, as I often do, and it was world class, with 4 guys in the water--incredible, but i was spent.

Sunday just after high tide saw fun leftovers at Rockaway B90. So funny the crowd there. packed. And they scowl. But they are mostly kooks who never take or make a drop. Starby (repaired, finally) did the trick--board's floatier than the creek, but still skinny enough to make steeper sections. Prefer the creek or the portal on the wave, but starby hits most of the pleasure on the wave, but is easier to position in the chop among the kooks!! Thousands of them.......

Hallo Humberto!!!  looked like wind'd be westy, but no mas--gon have plenty of north--RI and LI will fire nicely!!

I am going to get th pm and fri am--college family weekend upstate with my last (of 4) freshman.

it's a ponzi scheme of sorts--they cannibalize businesses, losing seemingly unlimited investor $$ to do so, and then control those businesses, and then raise prices to pre-cannibalization levels--but they arent really profitable, despite the breakneck (hah) growth

kinda like home depot---always stock up when they open a new one in your town---prices wont be that cheap once mom and pop are outta business, working minimum wage
