Been too long since I've been on here.  And way to long since I caught a wave.   :-[

1642 or 164.2?

Nearly a mile long ride?! :'(  That's a season worth of waves for me.

Where in the U.S. are you, and what board are you interested in?

Gear Talk / Re: Best wax for paddle shaft
« on: November 02, 2015, 06:55:36 AM »
I use Zogs 5x hard wax on my paddle and board.  I'm in Florida, so anything softer tends to smear and get greasy pretty quick, especially under my feet.  I've also tried Sticky Bumps base with good results, but had to recoat the board every paddle due to it smearing away in the standing area.  I went through an experimentation period where I tried every wax I could get my hands on and settled on the Zogs 5x.  I suspect it's the "base" wax, but it isn't marketed as such.

Not sure how the pros do it, but I had a black/carbon epoxy finish that I painted white (Home Depot white appliance epoxy) over.  I sanded it lengthwise and it was done.  It gets mistaken for a Starboard all the time.

No more Airborn!?  I'm going to have to search for a replacement for my 7'4" Airborn now.  I didn't want to jump down to the 7'4" Pro :(  Maybe this new Pro will be a bit better with a few more liters of volume.

9'2"x28" (120L) to a 12'6"x28" Jav

9'2"x28 (120L) to a 8'3"x27 (90L)

8'3"x27 (90L) to a 7'4"x28" (85L)

Have a 14'x26" Jav thrown somewhere in there.

Biggest jump/challenge was the 9'2" to 8'3".  Not only size, but volume.  It was a tough learning curve, but worth it.  Going from the 8'3" to the 7'4" wasn't as hard as I thought it might be.

SUP General / Re: when going down in board size how mUch?

I stepped down from a 9'2"x28" (120L) to a 8'3"x27 (90L) to a 7'4"x28" (85L).  I'm 72Kg.

Going from from the 9'2" to the 8'3" was tough for a handful of sessions.  Dropping to the 7'4" was only mildly challenging.

I did demo the 7'4"x25.5" (78L) and it was tough.  Lumpy day and lots of falls.  On wave performance was very good though.

My go to board for the last month or two has been the SB Airborn with the JL B&B thrown in a few times.

7'4"x28" (85L)
9'6"x28 (117L)

I'm 5'9"x160Lbs

SUP General / Re: Tourist season
« on: July 16, 2015, 05:06:58 AM »
Meh :-\  We have year round tourist here.  Summer time brings all the typical vacationers (NY, NJ, MD, OH) and winter time brings all the snowbirds-aka rich vacationers (NY, NJ, MD, OH, Canadian eh).  There are times when you can't drive down the road without seeing more out-of-state plates than FL plates.  The only good thing is they all stay out of the water when it cools off here.  Most places watch the leaves change colors during changes in season, we just watch the license plates change color ;D

Technique / Re: How do you release?
« on: July 15, 2015, 09:52:27 AM »
I flare the blade somewhere around my feet.  My SUSing stroke is a little lazy on the recovery and I drop my top hand lower than I normally would.  When I'm on my Javelin I tend to release/flare with more of an upward vertical motion to keep the shaft more vertical and recover more inline with the rail.

No idea on how to embed it :(

Nice video.  I liked the bubble at the end.  Maybe capture the bubble better next time.  When it pops you can quickly fade to black. ;D

What size Hokua?

SUP General / Re: Which waterproof cell phone case are you using
« on: July 06, 2015, 04:42:48 PM »
I've had the SnowLizard case for about a year now.  It has a solar panel/battery pack built in.  I wanted something to keep my phone charged on the long paddles when I use the GPS apps which seem to really drain the battery.
