Hey PDLSFR-

I am a co-founder, with Stoneaxe, of the CCBC. Since our first crossing in 2008, PonoBill was right there with us, we have seen a variety of boards, from 10' or 10'6 to 18'. I agree with Bill, that 14' is probably the best length, and, imho, it should have a displacement hull. The specific board, again imho, will be the one that you like the best. Caribsurf loves his Hobie, I love my Bark 14' Dominator, some people love, like Bill, the Naish, etc. Try a bunch if you can and pick the one you like the best. But again imho, I really believe a 14' displacement hull board provides the best combination of glide, stability and rider control. Hope this helps, look forward to you becoming a member of the CCBC Family next year.

suprbowl-

thanks for the wonderful post. It was avery special day, and the beginning of many more for Tim. The stoke of everyone involved was amazing, a great example of compassion, love ,joy, and teamwork to help a young man feel the joy of being a " surfah" again. If you could let me know how to contact Ralph, I would be very grateful. I just want to say thanks for the pics. Also, Dave Cropper and Phil Carey at Cinnamon Rainbows are the reason we were able to do this, huge thanks to them.

Mine does not have the wiki rail. You will love this board, with or without the rail.

Gear Talk / ULI 8'4" Quad
« on: August 14, 2012, 11:01:32 AM »
I just wanted to share a couple observations about this board. First, full disclosure, I am a wicked ULI fan. This is my 5th ULI  SUP board, and I also still own an ULI 6'8" fish.

I have loved all my ULI's for different reasons,  but the 8'4" Quad is definately my all time favorite. It is very stable, turns great and is a blast to surf. For me at 6' and 165lbs, it is the perfect size, very stable in mushy, choppy surf, and fun in shoulder -head high stuff.  It rolls up into a very compact size, and I just throw it into the back of my 4 Runner when I have to go the office right after a Dawn Patrol session. I can't fit in the office building garage with a board on the top of the 4 Runner.

The 8'4" pumps up easily and at 18-20lbs is very rigid. I love my 9'3" FAQ, but at my size this board just surfs alot better for me. It also paddles really well  and tracks really well for some distance workouts , in case you brought it on a trip and there were no waves. Anyhow, just another great product from Jim Weir, Steamroller and the crew at ULI-The First, The Original and still The Best

Bill-
Check out www.fatbackbikes.com. These are bikes are made with oversized tires for riding in sand and snow. It is an awesome workout, and great fun. I try to ride 3 days a week on the beach for about 1 1/2 hours, and paddle or sup surf the other 4 days. Fat biking is awesome fun and a good way to give the shoulders a break. It is also a great way to sweat out the red wine ;D

Gear Talk / Re: review of the Ke Nalu (Pono Bill) paddle
« on: April 18, 2012, 09:31:21 AM »
First of all, I have to state that I love The Entire Babcock Clan.

I have been suping and supsurfing since 2007, and I average between 175 and 200 days per year in the ocean. I have owned C4 paddles, Kialoa paddles ( most recently the Methane), Malama Paddles ( beautiful), and Werner paddles. Recently, I have loved my Werner Nitro for both distance and surf ( two different lengths ). I thought I had found the perfect paddle for me. Well, that was until Bob ( Stoneaxe ) gave me a KeNalu Wiki as a Christmas gift. Imho, this paddle is AMAZING. I am 6' and 165lbs, and I try to be a high cadence paddler, and the Wiki is incredible. It is unbelieveably light and and has awesome bite when you first pull on it in the water. I traded off with my son the other day, and used his Methane and gave him my Wiki- he didn't want to trade back, and the the Methane felt like sledge hammer after the Wiki. Great job Bill, your KeNalu Paddles are tremendous.

Gear Talk / Amazing ULI FAQ 9'3"
« on: April 09, 2012, 11:58:12 AM »
My wife and I just returned from a short trip to Antiqua, and I am constantly amazed at how great the ULI FAQ9'3" is for a variety of uses. I surfed it, distance paddled it, and did Downwindas on it. It really does well in all these conditions, and imho, is a very good travel board. Imho, it doesn't surf as well as my 8'5" Pocket Rocket, or do distance stuff as well as my Bark 14', but from a fun and travel standpoint it is truly outstanding. Kudos to Jim Weir, Steamroller, and their team, on a tremendous product that is Made in the USA.
