I just bought a 4oz tub of tef-gel on Amazon because it will be delivered quickly. So if anyone needs a resupply, let me know.

Thanks all. I appreciate your time to respond.
One question... I will want to regularly change wings on my foil, and it will be easier to remove the wings for transport and storage.
So on those bolts, should I just use grease? It sounds like tef-gel is quite sticky and not suited for repeated disassembly?

I'm about to start my foiling career, and want to hear the best practices on preventing corrosion. I'm using a Starboard foil system, which has a lot of stainless steel bolts, an aluminum fuselage, and carbon foils. https://starboardfoils.com/pages/2022-wing-and-wave-foils-overviewIt would be a pain to disassemble and rinse every bolt after every saltwater session. There are a lot of bolts. I'm keen to figure out which bolts I have to rinse every time, and which bolts can be left for an extended period with proper application of a anti-corrosion substance. Without thinking too much, I bought some marine grease off Amazon. Is this any good, or is there a better product? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002V3KD2O/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1Thanks all!

Regarding your paddle. I have two paddle lengths. One for surfing, which is 2" shorter than my height, and one for flatwater, which is 3" longer than my height.
For surfing, I use a small blade and go for the lightest high-end carbon fiber. Reduced weight makes a big difference in how fast you can paddle to catch waves. I have two Starboard Enduros. both exact same dims, but different construction. The pre-preg carbon version is significantly easier to catch waves with.
Regarding you next board. Are your small beach break waves fast and punchy? Or slow and mushy?
If fast and punchy, you might consider getting a shorter wider board, like a Starboard Hypernut. With good paddle technique, you cab catch waves almost as easy as a longer board, but while surfing it will be significantly more fun to turn and will generate more speed to make sections.
If slow and mushy, a longboard is better because it will have more glide. However the modern longboards like Infinity New Deal and Starboard Longboard will still turn really nice from the tail if a good section appears.

Hey stxsup87
Glad you made it in here. In contradiction to your question, I think paddle length and skill are more important than length of SUP. Since it sounds like you get a lot of water time (4-6 hour sessions), you can probably improve your skill and get a shorter board.
I SUP surf the most crowded beach break in Los Angeles, on various boards between 7'8 125l and 10' 140l. I'm 6'2 250lbs 51yo.
The most important factor is having a paddle short and small enough to allow for proper bracing and paddle strokes. I can catch waves relatively the same on all my boards. It's all about technique. Although the longer larger boards are more forgiving and work better in the smaller mushier waves.
For paddles.. go for a small blade, and total length should be at mid-forehead.
For what's it worth, when it's small and mushy, I really enjoy the Starboard Longboard SUP. When it's a little bit punchier, as beach breaks tend to be, I love my Infinity New Deal. Longboard style SUPs are a lot of fun.

Hi Ponobill.. thanks for the update.
I've ordered a Foil Drive because I don't have the time to build my own. There's a significant learning curve I would need.
However I'm going to build a new wingboard soon designed to use the foil-drive assist.
What I would like to do is cut the stock cable on the foildrive, and put in a quick-connect like you mentioned. So it's easy to build a through-hull fitting for the cable in my next board.
Can you post some pics of your connectors?

Nice board. Is the hole for water drainage, wire routing or both?

Yes... The 10' x 29" wide Starboard Longboard would be even better. In blue carbon it would be truly outstanding.

I know this may sound heretical. But check out the Starboard Longboard SUP. 10' x 31" 140l.
I have one and love how it surfs. Outline is similar to the Arrow, bit it has a modern bottom and rocker. Carves nicely from the tail and nose rides very well.
Even better... It should be easier to get in the UK.

Burchas... thanks for sharing the Wing Raider photos.
It's an interesting design. And helps confirm my theories about the physics going on here. The key is to prevent large volumes of water from bending around big corners to fill a pressure void area. Because the WR has a low angle step with low angle side corners, water can bend around easily, thus reducing drag in displacement mode.
I'm cracking the whip on my glasser as hard as I can, so I can get my board this week.
My take on how to solve this problem is different than anything else I've seen. In total of course, as I'm blending a number of ideas into one design.

I think the dual-stage tail rocker on the Starboard Take Off is really interesting. Could be a way to get the best of both worlds. I copied this on my new board.... which is still getting glassed.

Bummer to hear that Jon.
I've been wondering if my 6' shortboard comp leash would be a good option connected to a waist belt.
The so-called 10' coiled leash I bought seems quite short when the coil is in a resting state, and it feels like it is too short actually and would create a lot of rebound as it stretches out.
Thoughts?

Got my first wing session over the weekend at Belmont Shores. Light wind, about 12-15, and I was using my 6M North Nova and a Starboard inflatable windSUP.
I got really frustrated, because the wind direction was almost directly onshore, and I found it really hard to get moving at all while managing balance on a rubbery inflatable with short period chop impacting the side of the board. So I would walk out to chest deep water, and flail around for a few minutes trying to get up before being blown onto the beach.
I felt like a total noob, and loved it. It's been a while since I've committed to learning a new sport. I didn't care a whit about looking like a kook to the crowd on the beach. I'm not very self conscious in the water.
I finally got up and sustained a broad reach for about 5 minutes. Couldn't figure out how to get any upwind momentum and did a long walk of shame. I saw the lifeguard had followed me ways down the beach, but he turned around when he figured out that I understood safety.
Good news is that my Starboard foils just arrived, and now I have to ride herd on my shaper to get my board done. I'm sure it's going to be a lot easier on a proper wing foil SUP.

I'm stoked that my post has elicited a reference to Feynman and Tuvan throat signing. Ponobill... you just made my day. Time to dig out my old copies of Feynman from my days as a physics undergrad.
