The extra volume in the tail looks the biggest difference to me. Should mean that once the nose starts planing and you take a few steps back it wont substantially change the boards waterline or angle on the wave.

Hold on to your Quiksilver shorts guys, they will be collectors items soon...

First Billabong now Quiksilver should Rip-Curl be worried?

Hawaii / Re: Hawaii Kai Group

Hi Guys,

Im visiting Hawaii next week for a friends wedding and would be interested in joining for a Downwind run while there. I'm staying on Waikiki and free most days except Friday (wedding day)

I'm a regular SUPr with a lot of DW experience (I helped launch the Melbourne DW scene with DJ and the guys) but obviously I know nothing about Oahu and where to launch and paddle/not paddle.

I wont have a DW board and probably no car either. Happy to hire a board if the wind looks good but probably will need to rely on others for shuttle of myself and board.

Whats the water temperature like will I need any neoprene?

Thanks in advance, this is an old thread so I will leave this post here for a few days then maybe ask again in a new thread if needed.

so in a close race is the nose of the board first across the line or firs ankle?

The new Fanatics look great. I would stay away from the Naish 11'4. Its a perfectly fine board but not really geared towards crujising and you'll probably find it doesnt perform as well in the flat as you would want.

Starboard 12'6 cruiser is a good one too

I have the Lahui Kai 14' Orca and its super fast but also super tippy at my weight (200+ lbs). For you though it would probably be ok.

I have one and uhhh, its really heavy?

Is noticeably heavier than my 12' Glide at least.

But my NSP has had its share of repairs so probably would not be very good to be making comparisons off.

Travel, Trips, Destinations / Tsoi Lik Lagoon PNG

I just got back from a weekend trip to a place called Tsoi Lik in New Ireland province, Papua New Guinea. It has some pretty amazing scenery there. We got really good waves too but unfortunately not many pictures of that because my photographer was too busy reading her book, walking on the beach etc... oh well

I have a Lahui Kai 14 and at 95kg I find it very tippy. But as others have suggested I just practice practice practice and now I rarely come off.

Another thing to consider is fitness. When you get fatigued your mind starts to wander and you concentration falters, all of a sudden Splash! Super fit paddlers can actively balance all day on even the tippiest boards. Of course one thing tends to come with another as well.

Thats a seriously thick tail DJ but I like the look of these boards. How is the stability of them?
