Since so many folks are using truck racks with the thick crossbars, anybody making rack pads that are extra big to fit around these crossbars? Either companies online, or local surf shops?

I have no interest in ever being trapped on a cruise ship, but recently I remember seeing a company that had partnered with a cruise line in the Caribbean to provide SUP boards right from the stern "watersports" section of the ship, every day (not just for the one lousy "Beach Day" the ships usually provide you.) Searched but could not find anything, anyone have an idea of the cruise line or company?

For a couple of rough ocean races this year (I dont do well in the ocean) I dropped back to surf category and used a friends Jimmy Lewis Albatross (12-6x29) I was amazed by this board, plenty of float, fast but so stable, I think I was the only one who did not fall in some serious cross chop. I even beat a bunch of 12-6 and 14 race boards! However, being a full 12-6, I could not officially race in the surf class. I am wondering if there are any other large-volume, stable, but relatively narrow all-around boards out there that would come in at or under 12 feet?

Just got a race board for my young daughters, both would like to start training with me. However, I would ALSO like to get a good workout in while still paddling at their speed, has anyone tried dragging anything on a race board to make resistance for a lower speed but hard workout? I would like to find something that does not affect the tracking of the board too much. (In outrigger we sometimes wrapped a couple of bungee cords around the hull of an OC-1, just that small amount of drag gave an extra workout, not sure if that would work on SUP too.) Thanks for any advice!

I am trying to find a narrow race board for my daughters, and am so bummed I am not in California where there are so many great used deals in the Zone classifieds. Does anyone have any advice re a local shop that would be willing to box and ship a race board to the East coast, for a fee? Since they already have the packaging and know the process for shipping, would any of them be willing to ship a board not bought through them? Thanks for any advice!

Hey Zoners, I really want to take my girls to Florida/Caribbean area, anywhere that the water is calm and clear right from the beach, and easy for snorkeling. Would prefer US, USVI, and PR as no passports, any advice for good resorts where I could also maybe rent a SUP? Thanks!

Jude at HUKI is da man when it comes to outriggers, and I am intrigued by his newer wave of hollow vac molded SUPs, has anyone tried them? They look nice! http://www.huki.com/index.php?page=SUP_Bargains

Hi Zoners, I left my Ke Nalu at my mom's while visiting for the 4th, and today had to use my daughter's QB adjustable. It is an old one, aluminum shaft and FB blade, and with all due respect to Jim T. it SUCKED after paddling with a carbon blade. I don't know how the poor girl did it! I know that QB and all the other brands are now making much better, lighter adjustable paddles, I am looking for advice on the best lightweight one but still at a good price. FG is fine, I just want something lighter and better than I have, preferably with a small blade around 90.

Getting more race sleds from the guys at Infinity here in Maryland. Braved 27 degree wind chill this weekend (where the heck is spring?) to try them out. New Spears are the gray and green boards on the ends, 26 inches wide.

I know there have been recent posts on the race board options for mid-200 lb. paddlers and up. I weigh 225 and I recently got to test a pair of Infinity 14s, and really had the time to also take measurements, etc. They were both custom 14x28, essentially prototypes for the new Whiplash. Same weight, dimensions, nose, tail, rocker, etc. The only difference, viewed from the side the forward section of one board was about 1/2 to 1 inch thicker. In flat water, they performed the same per GPS and feel. Once they got into choppy conditions, however, the lower volume nose had waves coming over, the other one stayed essentially dry except for the biggest waves. The dryer board definitely stayed faster too in rough conditions. Just that little extra volume made a difference. I know the rule of thumb is to go wider, up to 30 inches, for heavier paddlers. However, would it be faster and better to add the volume into thickness instead of width? I have paddled 27 inch wide boards no problem, tippiness is not an issue, but because I was shoving more of them under water they were slower. I know thicker boards will raise the center of gravity and might be tippier, but at least for the custom Infinities they have an awesome recessed deck with a scupper drain, so you could go pretty deep with the deck; the Starboards seem to be doing something similar. If you have the $ for a custom, this might let you keep the speed you give up with a wider board.

Hey paddlers, any advice on how to mount THIS using THIS? I am trying to rig my Garmin to my deck on the cheap, using the GOPRO slot that came on the board. (It is basically a one inch side bites slot with screw) I am sure I can rig something with a piece of PVC pipe or a pool noodle and attach the GPS with the wrist strap, I just need to find whatever would mount in the slot. I have checked though the many GOPRO mounts but have not seen any that fit this type of slot. Thanks!

My cousin is the kind of adventure sports guy who has tried everything...twice. However, when I introduced him to SUP racing two years ago I think I created a monster (he is now kicking my ass in races) Though he lives in Chicago, in addition to racing in the Chicago SUP World Series last summer, he has driven his clunker to compete in races in Maryland, VA Beach, NC, and the SEAPaddle NYC. He just topped off the year by getting PaddleFit certified in Orlando, competed in the Orange Bowl Challenge, and got 1st place in the 12-6 division at the Cold Stroke Classic in NC. Here he posts on his blog, in better words than mine, why SUP racing has been a life changing experience for him. I think we have all felt that to some degree... http://aneccentricstake.blogspot.com/2013/01/working-on-working.html

Next Saturday Feb. 25 at 10 a.m. eastern the SUPAnnapolis crew will be featured on an episode of "Who Let the Dogs Out?" on Animal Planet. The show features the exploits of Tillman, the famous skateboarding, surfing, and now SUPing bulldog! The show contacted my friend Ben B., owner of SUPAnnapolis, to film the episode for Tillman, and we paddle as a group on the Severn River in Maryland. That dog is pure stoke- http://www.wholetthedogsout.tv/
