Foil SUP / NL Wingtips
« on: November 11, 2020, 12:25:04 PM »
I haven't had a chance to see one in person up close yet, but can one of you guys that owns one tell me if the NL wingtips are double (foil shape on both sides) or single foiled (flat on one side)?

Foil SUP / Blue Paint for Go Foil Wings
« on: May 06, 2020, 11:26:53 PM »
Does anyone know what blue paint color is used for the Go Foil wings - both gen 1 and 1.5???  Looking for brand and paint color (i.e., Rust-o-leum Maui Blue - BTW it's not this color).

Mahalo in advance

Gear Talk / ULI Race 14' Feedback

I'm thinking about ordering one of these boards from ULI.

Can someone who has used this board provide some feedback on their experiences with it?

Wind Powered / Aguera Hooked SUP - Windsurf Mast Track?
« on: July 19, 2013, 09:30:41 PM »

I just picked up a new board today - I ordered it because of the versatility of the board - specifically windsuping, fishing, surfing small waves and carrying a bunch of stuff.

Are any of you Hooked SUP owners out there in the same situation where there doesn't seem to be a mast track installed?

I picked up the board today from the freight shipper.  Box was intact and the board wrapped nicely in foam.  Not a scratch on the board.  I was expecting to see a mast track insert already cut out of the deck pad - none.  I tried probing for a void under the deck pad, but no joy.  I got a couple of Scotty mounts already.

A couple of questions - what screws did anyone with this board use to mount the scotty bracket - 1/4 20?

Did anyone have the same scenario with a hidden or non-present windsurfing mast track?

Fish Tales, Stand Up style / ULI FAQ for lake fly fishing
« on: June 10, 2013, 04:20:59 PM »
If you have been wondering, the FAQ is an awesome fishing platform.  I never cease to be amazed by this board - surfs awesome, if my wife's friends use it I don't have to be anal about dings, it packs down to nothing and the airlines don't charge extra, and now - the perfect fishing platform!  I'm going to take it whitewater surfing next.

Wind Powered / Anybody sail the 8'10" Starboard Widepoint???
« on: July 21, 2011, 06:10:30 AM »
Looking for feedback on how this board works in the surf with a sail (5.5-5.8) in lighter winds (less that what you'd use these same sails on an 85 L windsurfer - 8-12 or so).

Any pictures of this board or ride reports out there?

Wind Powered / Better SUP Sailing board - Naish 11'4" or Starboard Blend
« on: August 12, 2010, 06:09:22 AM »
Anyone out there have experience sailing these boards?

Light winds, chest high surf and lower, smaller sails are the conditions I want to use a board of this size in.  I am 180 (and have windsurfed/kited/sup'd) - this is a question to determine which of these two boards SUP Sails better - I'm not looking outside of these two.

I have other boards to windsurf better conditions - I am looking to fill this void.

Thanks -

From the grumblings, there is a lot more that this headed our way (more brushed carbon), but they have a picture of a "slick" construction (more surf oriented).

Here comes 2011!

No I don't work for Starboard.  I am an equal opportunity gawker.

Gear Talk / Starboard Hero Feedback
« on: February 18, 2010, 05:30:43 AM »
Is there anyone out there that has picked up a Hero and has used it enough to provide opinions?

I'm 175#, 5'7" and used to surf SoCal Pacific juice on narrower, longer boards (custom Walden 9'6"x30", PSH Popout 9'6" 28.5)

Right now I'm looking to squeeze energy from Gulf Coast wind swell or Florida Atlantic storm surf.  The volume distribution on the Hero intrigues me, but user feedback would confirm my thoughts on the design.

Anybody out in the zone (or on Oahu) had a chance to try out the Welo from Tropical Blends?

Not sure if the hyperlink transposed, if not then copy and paste into your browser -

Discussion thread (and photos) on the surfer magazine forum about a SUPer dropping in on a bunch of kids and a dad (all on the same board).

Lots of H8 against sup'rs -

I saw this when kitesurfing first emerged - the windsurfers that originally made the jump understood the "starboard tack right of way" concept - the surfers that got into it didn't.

Now - the surfers that see this as another tool in the quiver know that they should take every wave (just because they can) and that you just don't drop in on someone already on a wave.

Make sure you read down to the bottom of the thread (if you are interested - if you've read this far you probably are) - some references to some well respected surfers (again mixed in with some H8)

Shows that more than ever, as the line ups get more crowded, we all need to be respectful.

SUP General / Gulf Coast SUPers and events?
« on: April 26, 2009, 05:55:31 PM »
I just found out I'll be living in Gulfport, MS for the next 2 years (Navy life).

I've been looking on the web, but it's not looking good for events.

Are there any SUPers in the area and do you know of any events?

Living in SOCAL, it has been far too easy to take the SUP life for granted.  I am looking forward to the new environment and flatwater (I'm gonna need a new board... 16' point to point)

Events / Sacred Craft Show in Ventura
« on: March 06, 2009, 07:55:29 AM »

I went to this last year down in Del Mar.  Walden had my 9'6" on display and Tim Stamps was another big SUP contributor.

Well worth the $10 or so I had to pay to get in.

If you're like me, it was like walking into purgatory - all those boards and me fighting the urge to pull out my credit card and let myself go...  My wife and kids were with me so I had to keep my composure, but the things that were going on inside my head....

Make plans now if you surf or paddlesurf.
